Excessive Ouya Modding... Liquid Cooling Edition

Hello everyone! When I [finally] got my Ouya last week I realized that this little thing actually puts out some heat, much to my surprise. I know there is no danger of it overheating at stock voltages/clocks, but it won't be long before I'm ready to see how far this thing can be pushed. Since I plan on leaving the unit turned on 24/7 for development this should keep it alive longer too. At $99 it's not exactly breaking the bank, but to be honest this thing is just begging to be modded.

    Plans (So far)
    • Corsair H60 Cooler
    • Custom lexan case
    • Powered 4-port USB hub (also keeping original port)
    • Micro ATX power supply to power everything (ordered)

    **UPDATES**
Case still needs to be completed and now I'm ordering a pico PSU to power everything. I'm shooting for next weekend to have everything completed. That being said it all works currently and I've been enjoying my system and testing some games out to get temp readings. Currently I'm idling at ~28 degrees and under full load in gaming the temps top out at ~43 degrees. This makes me happy.

    Crappy heatsink mounting.

    Freed from it's restraints.

Heatsink added to memory chip on the back.

Mount finished, shims installed, and power switch/LED relocated. New power leads have been soldered to the bottom of the board and is now powered via molex connector.

    Block mounted

Hooked up and ready to rock out!

Definitely keep us posted! I want to see a liquid cooled Ouya running around.

Thanks for the encouragement! I've got a little done on the actual cradle/mount piece. This ought to make it much easier to mount the waterblock, not to mention let the bottom of the board breathe.

Haha, didn't you see the name of the thread? Of course it's extreme, and completely on purpose. Using the setup I'm shooting for it will cool more efficiently(even though it isn't needed) than that air setup and be completely silent. If you're talking about nothing more than necessity there would be no reason to do any cooling mods at all, but that's no fun.

It should power that just fine, the biggest problem is mounting the fan. Also, could you please remove the embedded pictures and instead provide links to them? People coming to this thread are coming to see water cooling, not a thread full of air coolers. I mean no disrespect and it would be appreciated.

I do think this is overkill, did you oveeclock it or something. So far I haven't seen temps go over 156F after hours of gaming. And quickly fell to around 100F when I was done and idle.

I haven't overclocked it yet but soon will. This isn't something that I'm doing because I actually think the system needs it, but because it is fun to me and no other reason. Since when are case mods supposed to be pragmatic anyways? This is the hack and mod section isn't it?
