View Full Version : Ouya case material

Howdy folks,

I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of material the case was made out of? I know the black is probably plastic but what is the silver?

I'm praying for aluminum so I can give it a sweet custom paint job. Maybe a tiny window and some cool LEDs.

Anyone know?

Curious bumpiness!

I can't say for sure, but I believe that controller faceplates and the sides of the console are aluminum. I'm also under the impression that the top and rounded corners of the console will be plastic. None of this is 100% certain (No one here has a consumer model yet AFAIK) , but it's most likely the case.

Console is made of aluminum (except for the black plastic parts); confirmed by various press previews and the descriptions on Amazon and other sites.

Cool, seems a really well-done console (almost incredible for a 99$)
I hope the PCB quality is also good :)

I have heard that the consoles that will ship in june for the real release will not be aluminum, but instead, fully plastic. I can't comfirm (or deny) this though.

It is aluminum. Feels very nice. as far as the real release ... no idea.

Well that's disappointing...

Black plastic and brushed aluminum it looks i'm afraid. There are some nice vent holes in the bottom and top that could give a nice glow with some LED's.

I guess if you flatten out the brushed aluminum you could give it a nice coat of paint, I personally would like to see some creative custom cases. It's such a small board and could supply limitless designs for the keen hacker.

If the ouya ends up being worth it I'm going to buy a second one to muck around with. Thinking of putting in a few L. E. Ds and possibly making a carbon fibre case.
