Acorn Assault - OUYA Exclusive Launching Feb. 25th

Hey everyone! I'm excited to officially announce a release date for our game Acorn Assault The game will be available exclusively on OUYA February 25th.

Acorn Assault is a turn-based strategy game with a match-three twist! Play against the computer or against one of your friends! There has been a rift in the squirrels of the forest. An epic battle of the ages has broken out between the warring factions of the Rebellious Raging Rabble and the Mighty and Malicious Monarchy! Who will claim the final victory, and all of those tasty, tasty acorns lies in your very hands!

You may recall seeing a game here with the same name a while ago and you would be right! We submitted this game to the OUYA Create Game Jam last year. We have spent this last year improving the gameplay, adding features, balancing the game and building our own unique world for it to take place in. We are super excited to get the final game into your hands and hear how you guys like it! I hope you all try it out on the 25th. Until then, check out our launch trailer and get ready for the squirrel revolution!

How much does this differ from what you have readily available to play on your website?

Awesome! We hope you love the game Kaimega!

And Hugo. It's not a radical shift away from it. One of the biggest differences gameplay-wise is that we added some features to the game to balance the game. That game can get one-sided quickly and the other player wouldn't have a chance to fight their way back which would ruin the game. Now, we encourage merging of your pieces by awarding you with acorns. You can spend these acorns to regain some health, improve your attack damage for a turn, or added defense for your next turn. It really changes the dynamic of the game and if you play well, you can get yourself back in the lead after losing a bunch of health. And in the same vein of balancing, we modified the attack damage and defensive damage of each unit to make the game fair. You no longer will merge pieces together and feel like you got a weaker unit than having three separate units.

Of course visually it differ's quite a bit. We polished the game and tuned it specifically to the OUYA to try and get the best looking game possible. And the squirrels and environment have been completely replaced with our own assets. Everything looks cohesive and matches the visual style.

Out of curiosity, how many of you recognized the game from the OUYA Create game jam?

It has been a long time since the CREATE Jam, to be honest, I can't remember any of the games from there except 1900.. primarily because it was the only game that was a number

Hah, that's fair. Yeah, unfortunately we didn't make it too far in the contest, but the responses from the people that did play were great and helped us form this version of the game.

This looks interesting. Is there a campaign? I loved the trailer; I want to know more about the tragic story of these squirrels!

We focused on getting solid fun multiplayer gameplay with this game, so there is no campaign to it. However, you can still play against the computer. Having said that, after working on this game and developing these characters we grew attached to them and want to tell more of their story some time in the near future!
