Any problems with OUYA and airport security?

    Hello All,

I've got to take a flight this weekend, and I was debating on whether or not to bring the good ol' OUYA.

My question is, has anyone gone through airport security with the thing and had any problems? I'm not sure if a small metal case would raise alarms and cause a bunch of trouble.

Horror Story? Success Story? Please share, and thanks!

Its just like a laptop or xbox or tv. If you're taking it on a flight you're gonna have to get it checked. I'd suggest putting extra padding around the box (like a blanket inside a bag) so it doesn't move as much. You'll have to check it but you shouldn't have any issues.

IDK with all the Ouya hate, he may get stopped! They may think its a WMD! Wonderful Multifunction Device lol.

Kidding of course. I would imagine you would be fine. Just like a cell phone or radio

I've taken it to GDC in my hold luggage with no problems. Wrapped it in clothes to avoid damage and it made both trips just fine.

Mike Bithell, of "Thomas was Alone" fame, visited the Steam Dev Days and brought back a Steam box in his hand luggage (from the US, to the UK). Once he'd explained it was a computer, they were fine and let it through.

So either way (hold or hand luggage), you should be fine :-)

    Two options:

    1. Place the console in a seperate tray when going trhough security. That is protocol for a laptop, so I assume it be the same for a console.

    2. Keep the console in your bag going through the scanner at security. They might (but probably won't) ask you to take it out of the bag so they can check it out.

Do not put in checked baggage. My personal rule is to never put anything in checked baggage that I would mind being ran over by a truck (side story).

They shouldn't give you any problem. I travel with a laptop and a Raspberry Pi for work, and I have never had any problem. I keep the Raspberry Pi in my laptop bag just for less hassle and have never been asked to take it out. TSA peeps are very agreeable with devices

If you plan on going to Sochi for the Olympics... I could see some concern. LOL

Haha... Staying away form Sochi, so never fear there.

And yeah, I would be bringing it as a carry on as its a quick trip, and I don't need to check any baggage.

If you end up having to explain that it's just an awesome little game console, be extra careful not to tell them "it's the bomb!"

Ive had it on a flight in a checked bag once and in a carry on twice. No one took a second look at it.

They did however take my f****** slinky.
