Thread: Losing interest

    Losing interest

Im currently going through one of my tickets still with OUYA about this.
    Im a little pissed.
My GF bought it for me for xmas when I mentioned interest and I loved it. I was actually a kickstarter donator (only like 20$ but still).
Any way my games were UNPLAYABLE. The lag and issues I had with the controller were just abysmal to the point of near screaming.
I decided to open a ticket with OUYA and that was a PITA. I opened a ticket for a new controller. I got a response and no matter how many times I emailed for an ETA they gave me none. My friend the next state over opens a ticket the next week and gets an ETA a day later. Needless to say I was PISSED. Luckily he gave me permission to use his info as to why he got an ETA so fast and his controller was being shipped and mine was is limbo.
When I finally got mine they had the audacity to tell me I HAD TO PAY to ship the old one back. My buddy basically said screw them and kept his, but to me it was useless and I wanted to stay in good graces for future warranty issues and paid the 6$ cheapest shipping with tracking to get it back to them.
I had to move my console out of my tech area which was a neatly built and shelved doorless closet to my right where my ps3, 360, 2 media PC's and any other equipment I had (all hardwired no wifi) to under my TV on its side in front of me with all my wires now in a tangled mess line of site like it was a ball of string unraveling.
No more than a couple days after I get my controller this version is announced and it would seem the plastic case and enhanced wifi/new firmware is a fix to the horrid controller system they use. I emailed them because technically I was still within my 30 days with target to return the console and had someone mentioned this new version I would have returned it and just got this one.
Right now Im going through it with them again to see if I can exchange this one for the new one and pay the difference but they say I will then have to pay MYSELF AGAIN to mail the old system back to them.

Sorry I had high hopes for this but Ive lost all interest after this.
I feel so bad because now I HAVE to turn this hunk of crap on every few days and goof with it or my GF thinks it was a bad gift. There are really some neat games. I have bought quite a few already and have all the emulators loaded but the controls and lack of REAL MEDIA APPS (netflix, hulu, prime, etc) make this thing not worth the 100$.

Can't really say I have had any of these issues. Ouya customer service has been great for me so far. They even have swapped out stuff that is no longer under warranty lol. Most manufacturers require you to pay return shipping these days which I agree does suck, but each time I had to send them back I asked if I could get reimbursed for the shipping and they always said:

"Of course we can!! We would be happy to. Just send it with the cheapest method you can find and take a picture of your receipt and we will credit your account!"

So yeah they always treat me very well

They worked well for me too when I returned my controller. Also install the amazon app store; download netflix and hulu. If you're unhappy return the Ouya; tell your girlfriend you didn't like it; and suck it up.

Having the ouya tilted downard towards you should help with lag. You can use your ps3 and xbox360 controllers (wired) in place of the ouya controller if you are having that much lag. It will instantly fix it unless you do indeed have a faulty unit in which case return it to Target and buy the new one. Better then shipping them the old one since that seems to be too much to ask since you didn't actually buy it from Ouya.

So much this. I'm sorry about your experience, but you're capable of fixing your problem and you refuse to.

You've mentioned a few things in your rant, none of which seem to be related. Are you more upset that you're not getting the same speedy reply that your buddy got, that you were inconvenienced with a defective product, that you'll have to "offend" your hypersensitive girlfriend, or that you haven't bothered to research how to sideload apps?

I think you guys missed the part that my 30 day return ended because the OUYA guys told me the new controller would fix the lag. It hasnt and I lost the ability to return the OUYA to target because they took so long.
This is why Im pissed. Had they been a bit more punctual with my exchange like with my friend or more honest up front about the new console I could have made it.
I can bring it to Target but without a reciept I can only get an even exchange, If I use the reciept its over 30 days and I can't return it or exchange I have to go throught he manufacturer for defects regardless.

My issue is I CANT bring it back anymore.

I have a PS3 but cant see myself constantly resyncing with each console, nor do I want to go buy another ps3 controller for the OUYA when it was supplied with one I already paid for.

The Target REDcard adds 30 extra days for returns.

I'm confused about how they were dishonest about the new console and which new one? The black or white one? Please explain.

Im not saying they were dishonest, that word never escaped my mouth, just that their response time and information was poor.
I dont have a target redcard.

I am annoyed that if the rep had said there is a new version coming out in a WEEK with improved controller performance I would have cancelled the entire ticket and returned the device and waited for the new system.
I openly said in my email to the "new" rep I started dealing with (my friends rep) after the first one too so long with my ticket, that he may not have even know about the new console but that would just be poor communication in such a small company.

    The new black one

It also boasts an updated controller, which according to Ouya gives more functionality and better response times thanks to improved Bluetooth code.

love your profile pic by the way

I'm currently using the Rock Candy ps3 controllers that come with a BT dongle and these work pretty good not only on Ouya but on my HTPC also.
I havn't had many issues with the one that came with it but I prefer the feel of the PS3 ones better.

    That's probably because you said:

Which is the opposite--that you were within the 30 days to return it to Target. We aren't going to be able to help you a lot if you keep contradicting yourself like that.

In the meantime, there are plenty of people who don't have problems with the Ouya controller. Why not return your Ouya to Ouya, and tell customer suport you're disappointed that you had to return the controller and then both console and controller, and as if they can at least reimburse your shipping costs?

You've been given plenty of useful advice; you just seem to not want to take it. Instead, it seems like you'd rather just complain about your Ouya and Ouya's customer service (which, as far as I can tell, has actually been quite reasonable). This is not really a place where that will garner you a lot of sympathy. We're happy to help you try and fix your problem, but if you don't want to fix it and just want to complain about the Ouya, there are plenty of other places that will welcome you. Perhaps you should go to one of them?

Hm... so your mad then because by trying to send a controller in for RMA took you past the point of returning it. Ok fair enough and yeah I have got hit by that dozens of times over the years. That why its always best with any new products, especially electronics, to attempt to contact the re-seller first. I almost never contact manufacturers due to there support taking forever. Last time I sent my DVD player to Sony it took over 9 months to return and I had to pay for shipping. It happens. Not sure what else to tell you except next time you have a product that is malfunctioning, take it back to the re-seller and only use manufacturers when you have no other choice I guess.
