Hmm, the PS3 pad works terrific for me. I can use it for days without needing to charge it again. In fact, I probably haven't charged it in a week and I play at least a few hours a day normally.
I can agree that the OUYA battery life is great though. Still on the first two AAs after a month of pretty consistent use.

"Unplugging" even once a week is more unplugging than when the PS2 had a wire. So, that kind of defeats the purpose of removing the wire. The wire worked so well on the last two and since they had a lot more attachments than just controllers it didn't make sense to remove the wire. What is the point of being backwards compatible but no where to hook up everything for the last two consoles? And if it is just going to "unplug" itself then why even get rid of the wire? It worked as is. I think it was just a gimmick to make it seem like progress.

I've got to disagree. I don't consider having the ability to be "untethered" and to be able to sit just about anywhere I want in the room while still playing games on my large TV a "gimmick." In fact, if I could opt to have just about everything wireless, I would. Plugging it in once awhile to charge it is such a minor inconvenience I don't even consider it one.
I understand that but from my personal experience it felt like a gimmick in the same way that the Virtual Boy did on selling the idea of virtual reality glasses but poorly delivering it. It felt like a gimmick because it was selling me on the idea of being untethered but it was poorly delivered. I don't doubt that the PS3 controller has worked for you, that you felt untethered, and that you could sit where ever you want. I'm happy it has worked out for you but it didn't for me. If the day I received my PS3 I could have plugged in my PS2 controllers I would have felt more untethered with the wire. I stopped actively playing my PS3 years ago. I just use it as a DVD player. So, I can't recall the exact timing but it felt like I was constantly losing power in the middle of a game and sitting up really close using the small wire. But my wife still plays it and she uses a longer wire all the time. She is on her laptop right next to me. I just asked her,"When you are playing a lot like spending a lot of time playing GTA4 how long on a full charge can you go on average with all the controllers we have bought for it the whole time we have owned it?" Her answer was,"About 2 hours." I don't know how accurate her estimate is or how exaggerated it is but that feeling of it constantly dying matches mine. If it is charged on the PS3 it dies, if it is charged on the charging dock it dies, if it is a brand new controller it dies, and even when her cousin comes over for the weekend with his controllers they die. I haven't personally experienced the convenience of an untethered wireless PS3 controller. The same with both of my Wii's and their controllers. The OUYA controller is the first wireless controller that I have experienced this untethered feeling. It feels as if it is still plugged in. I don't know why or how because I don't build these devices but that has been my experience. It feels like I need charging docks, extra wires, etc just to accomplish the task of playing a game. Until I bought an OUYA a wireless controller felt like a gimmick to me because it was selling me on the idea of the same conveniences of being plugged in and the conveniences of being untethered but never delivered.
