Are currently running correspondence games affected by the rule changes or only games started after the new version went live?

    Chess 2 goes to Steam

Chess 2 is about to hit Steam. I think it would be a nice gesture for my fellow Ouya users who also have Steam accounts to pop in the forum for that game and say a nice word about it. If not, that's cool too. I just think it would be a nice way for us to do something nice for a dev who released such an awesome game on the Ouya.

My Ouya games collection is now too big to list here.

Please note that online play should be cross platform, so you should be able to get more games going soon!

The Steam-Beta is already running since 2 weeks or so and I'm often matched against PC-players (judging by some nicknames that afaik aren't possible on the Ouya). So it already seems to work. I myself will probably switch to the steam version at some point. I'm just hoping that I can somehow transfer/connect my current Chess 2 "account".

That looks like a bug under any ruleset. Since it's a MonteCarlo game, I'm certain that you're playing the old rules. (Since the OUYA verion has only been online for a day or so, there's no way you got that far in the game against Monte Carlo + in 1 day)

It's possible that only the old rules were broken? I'm not sure, and will have to investigate. Maybe try and see if you can replicate this on couch mode (which would use the new rules).

Yes, the game against MonteCarlo should be using the old rule set. But if for some reason the new rules got applied after MonteCarlo moved his rook, I should have been able to take his king with the elephant (under the new rules he would have been forced to take the elephant instead of moving his rook). So maybe this broke something.
I will test if the new rules for some reason did get somewhat applied to this game (even if the elephants don't work at all it should be a checkmate in 2 and I can prolong it as long as I want without losing the game). But this may take some time, depending on how long Monte Carlo takes to do his turns.

The new rules seem to work fine using couch mode, so newly started games should be safe.

edit: OK the game actually used the old rules as it should (couldn't capture pieces at the edge of the board with an elephant only moving 1 or 2 fields). I forgot to test if I could checkmate with an other elephant, but at least I checked that I could checkmate using my jungle queen.

Chess 2 Unplayable - Server Error Prevents Offline Play...

Has anyone else been getting this error:

"Error: Game is out of date and must be updated to play online."

There was a recent update and the game has been previously working well. If this is due to their recent server troubles with Microsoft, then they need to update this to allow for offline play. As it is, the persistent error pops up so much that it chokes the game to a stop (even the music begins to falter).

    Any Ideas?

Well, the Steam version releases today and there probably has been an update for that. He probably already submitted the updated version for the Ouya but it didn't get approved yet. The last time it took nearly a week.

That's not really a problem for singleplayer games but for online-multiplayer games it's not really ideal. And I hope that's not the future and happens everytime there's an update from now on (I guess that in the past he tried to update the server after the new version was available on the Ouya store, but now the Steam version sets which version the server is using).
