    Summary
Heroes of Umbra is a short side-scrolling RPG that takes influence from games like Maplestory, Zelda II, and Castlevania. The game is written in Java, so it runs in Win/Mac/Linux as well as Android/OUYA. Friends can join your game at any time to help you -- everyone is automatically partied -- and monster difficulty scales based on how many players are connected to your game. As your character levels you can allocate stat points, learn skills from two different skill trees, and find new gear to show off.

The game has been in alpha for the last year but I feel the current version is in a playable state. Three of the four planned dungeons are complete, and any feedback you have is appreciated.

    Download
    Win/Mac/Linux

(If double-clicking doesn't start the game, try java -jar heroes-of-umbra.jar from command-line)

Keys can be rebinded by manually changing the settings file that is created when the game launches. Detailed instructions.

Awesome thank you! I realized I hadn't made a thread here yet despite seeing that old one here and I just released the third dungeon so I figured it would be a good time.

Stupid question but does that mean if I re-install the game there will be more content than there was 3 months ago? This may be what finally peels me away from Starbound and get me back on my Ouya....

Just found this; a page back local multiplayer was being discussed - is that still being considered? I have yet to try out the game but I'm seriously interested.

Yes! There is more content -- a whole new dungeon, lots more gear, more fixes/balancing, and so on. Your save should still remain, too.

It is planned but not implemented. Embarrassingly I haven't played with the OUYA-specific code too much just yet, as I have been focused on content the past three months.

I imagine that a great many OUYA owners didn't know about this game, having got their console after September. I didn't get mine until it was widely available at Target.
Yeah! I started planning and developing this game when the Kickstarter was announced. This was sort of the catalyst for me to buckle down and try my hand at network programming plus pixel art. It just takes time to make a solid game. Not saying I am quite there yet myself, but I bet in the future we will continue to see great games developed for the console.

good game, i can't even kill that bones ;(
Be sure you are allocating your stat points correctly! An NPC in-town should be able to give you some tips to ensure you're building the character optimally but essentially your damage output comes from Power + Attack if you are using Physical skills and attacks and Wisdom + M. Attack if you are using Magical Skills. Stamina+M./Defense will aid in damage mitigation.

Thanks for all the comments. I just remembered. I actually added two slots for hotkeys, so now there are 6 hotkey slots instead of 4. I still need to map the two on the OUYA build so you might not be able to use the last two slots.

Great! I'm patient, if it's planned that's really good. Just try to manage it sometime before the world goes to pot and I'll be very happy.

I absolutely love games with tons of confusing modifiers! I've got to get my teeth into this...
