Simple.TV Starts Shipping Next-Gen Streaming DVR, With Cloud Storage And Ouya Support

Simple.TV is making good on its promise to ship its next-generation streaming DVR to users who pre-ordered the product, telling them they would receive the devices by the end of the year. The company is also releasing new versions of its iOS and Android mobile and tablet apps to make it easier for users to find content that they want to stream and record. The release comes ahead of Simple.TV’s plan to unveil a cloud-based DVR storage offering, as well as support on OUYA game consoles.

I imagine the DVR support means playback client (for OUYA and/or other portable devices) when you push your recorded shows to the cloud, or to connect up to it for streaming across your local wifi.

Yea, I'm curious how this will be implemented. If you don't have cable how would this work, how about if you do, how would it know what you have/don't have access to?

I know silicondust is coming out with a network based tuner that can transcode to x264, this is much needed for people that live in an area where MPEG2/AC3 are the default codecs. Pair that with XBMC and job is done.
