I'm having flashbacks of a C64 game called "Movie Monster", just based on the description.

WOW!!! Never heard of that game, it looks an awful lot like my idea (only that i based mine on Rampage and not on this game).

Guess what, i never had a C64, that's why i never knew of this game.

Just in case anyone want to see what I'm talking about:

Yeah, I grew up on the C64. Movie Monster was a hit with my friends. We played it all the time! In fact, I just sent a link to the youtube video to one of my friends and said: "Hey, what does this make you think of?" LOL I'm pretty sure he'll response with Movie Monster.

I'm gonna have to check this out on my Ouya, for sure.

Are the sounds from inaccurate emulation or did they really sound that bad originally? LOL! I see the similarities but can see how people could come up with the same idea independently. Who hasn't wanted to be a city destroying monster?

Oh, the sounds were that bad, no doubt. There was not much in terms of actual 'sounds' in that game. LOL

So what's this like? I downloaded it but not had a chance to play yet. Do you have to buy things with real money to progress? Also any way of buying the full game as a one off?

I've bought so many games I can't list them on my sig now lol.

No need to do IAPs to progress, although those make you go faster. The premium version which is going to be released next week after the review team comes back from vacations allows you to unlock 16 more skills and more body parts. Also, the premium version is going to have different play modes and will make winning coins much much easier.

That's great news! How much will the premium one be?

Currently you can buy it for $0.99 on the OUYA details page because there are no premium features at all. With the next update i'll change its price to $2.99 (with the including of the new skills) and then with the other bigger update with lots of new content and game styles it will become $4.99.
