Did you try to force enable caching? Look here. Works for me but does need 13.x version

Hey Eldon, even after I cleared my Cache it doesnt seem to build up that buffer when on my LAN even when I put the movie on pause for a while. When streaming with add-ons off the net it builds up plenty of cache. I'm going to play around with the advancedsettings and see if that helps. Still having stuttering issues with my local files via ethernet connection. Any advanced settings you can recommend? I know there is "Tuxens", "No-Cache" and Mikeys1234. Thanks.

I did try the force enable caching on a recent Gotham Nightly build, and did a hard reset after changing the advancedsettings, no way would it cache at all when trying to play a movie through a SMB share, not even when I paused the movie for 30 min. With add-ons, it did cache.
I'm curious as to what you changed in the config and what your deeming as cached and non cached. I can tell you that it is not represented in the seek bar really and the cache is only held in ram so your not likely to get the level of caching your looking for.
One that I played with on gotham was:
This did help playback on a friends box, so perhaps it will be good for you too.<advancedsettings> <network>
<!--
These tweaks are needed to ensure smooth playback
-->
<alwaysforcebuffer>1</alwaysforcebuffer><!-- Forces buffering of video files -->
<cachemembuffersize>104857600</cachemembuffersize><!-- Forces a max of 100MB of cache in RAM, will actually use 3 times that -->
<readbufferfactor>2.0</readbufferfactor><!-- Sets the read speed to twice what is needed to fill the cache -->
</network>
</advancedsettings>

I will try the new version later that day
Hi Eldon, those were actually the settings I used in my advancedsettings xml file. When I think of cache I do think of it represented in the seek bar as being "greyed". For example, when I use an add-on like 1channel or Mashup, I can see the seek bar greyed out well in advanced so I dont see any stuttering at all. However when I play a movie over my network, I never see the seek bar get "greyed" out, hence the stuttering maybe? I always thought the greyed out part was the the player caching.
Also, what is it that I'm seeing the seek bar if you dont think its the cache?
Thanks again!
Caching should be on at all times, but might not be the default. It should be. Noticed the other day that 1channel was not caching upon pause. It used to. Typical XBMC glitch just random happens. No idea why.
Mine is from the backing delivery so not final either but the fan goes on and off each 5 minutes. I watch series late at night and like to have the volume at lowest possible and the fan is not a pleasant bonus sound. I've dismounted my OUYA for the first time and disconnected the fan to evaluate the heat development.

One thing I don't understand about SOC's is how things are "distributed" between the GPU and the CPU. Shouldn't video playback only stress the GPU and therefore result in less heat development, especially when we have working hardware acceleration?

Would it be possible to pull in the android apps launching improvements that are in 13? So that apps can be added as favourites and can be launched by calling XBMC.StartAndroidActivity()
