Thread: SPMC - Koying

  1. #241

Hi, I'm currently looking to buy the OUYA for a new XBMC media center but I heard that AC3/DTS decoding has been removed to due licensing issue.

My first question is with the SPMC will I be able to have audio when watching MKV H.264 1080P video on my TV (NO RECEIVER).. so does it do downstream to stereo ?
Also will I be able to use my 1TB NTFS USB drive ? or 2TB ? will I need to load the PARAGON driver from the googleplay ?

    Thank you

    Yes.

In theory, yes, but some drives and enclosures have given people trouble. I had a 2 TB NTFS drive connected for awhile with no trouble.

I don't even know what that is, so you probably won't need it.

You will only need paragon if it doesn't automatically register your hard drive.

    Thank you for your answer

The paragon driver seems to be a software (plugin) for android that you download from google play to give you access to NTFS & HFS+

I still hope that Ouya developper will find a way to fix the licensing issue. this is a killer for them.

Hey, Koying. Nice job with SPMC! Do you (or anybody else) know why the same files will play as Dolby Digital in SPMC but as PCM on XBMC nightlys (including the Gotham launcher)? Is this something that just hadn't been added to XBMC yet? It doesn't matter because SPMC works so well, just kinda concerned with the audio settings that has been changed. Thanks!

Everything has been running fine for a while but yesterday I ran into a file that won't play, 1080p H264. When I play it I get audio but no video, I just see the menu while I hear the audio playing. It is not my own encode but it plays fine on my openelec equiped asrock downstairs so here is a log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=123090
It is the banana min movie, the others in the same folder as well. Really don't understand logs but see things like "ERROR: CStageFrightVideo - decoding error (-110)"

This fork is supported neither by Ouya nor by XBMC, just by me

SPMC is just a tip of the mountain that XBMC is.
I read XMBC is going to move the Gotham version to beta stage soon. Will you be moving SPMC version to Gotham series too since XBMC states for Android user, Gotham will be the best.

I think Koying made libstagefright work, his work is in Gotham and spmc so the core should be the same I think, except for some tweaks maybe.

I received my Ouya yesterday and promptly installed SPMC, runs much quicker than it did on my Xios DS. Everything is set up and great, except for the picture being very dark.

I'm aware that is not the fault of SPMC and I'm new here, but as someone who has all of their HDMI cables going into a switch and then a single HDMI to the TV, I wanted to reaffirm some earlier posts that the return of a brightness/contrast setting would be very helpful to some. I imagine this would require it's own build, but I'm sure the ones with this problem would have no issue with being limited on skins they can use or having every single update.

Thanks for all your work on SPMC, I look forward to using it and exploring some more.

Hello, I still haven't had any luck getting SPMC to give me 5.1 surround sound.

I have AutoPilot set to auto boot SPMC, in Audio settings I have it set to HDMI 5.1 and have all the receiver options set to off (unchecked) except for the Multi-channel LPCM capable receiver option.
When I play a file with these settings, only my front left and front right speakers work and there is no voice audio (as voices should be coming from my center channel which gets no sound).

I have the Ouya connected to a Pioneer receiver via HDMI and the pioneer receiver is connected to an LG TV with SimpLink (HDMI-CEC) turned off.

I have tried rebooting the console as the audio is supposed to only work when SPMC gets launched via AutoPilot at startup and still no luck.

note that I use BAXY Launcher for my default launcher but have also tried switching back to the default Ouya launcher and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Also, my Ouya controller is always left off at boot time as I use FLIRC to control SPMC (read somewhere that having the controller on may affect something)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
