The difference between SPMC and XBMC

Hello OUYAForum members, this thread was created in order to clarify any doubts between the differences between SPMC and XBMC.

XBMC, which is available in the store, and SPMC were created by the same developer, Koying. After XBMC has gone through trouble with the audio license (AC3/DTS), which will most likely never be resolved, the store version was updated to the 12.3.3 version which disables ac3/dts decoding capabilites.

You can sideload the 12.3.2 version which still has the AC3/DTS decoder and was the best stopgap solution for some time.

Koying, the developer, decided to fork XBMC for OUYA to a new branch called SPMC. SPMC continues to recieve features and gets bug fixes. The SPMC version number continues after XBMC for OUYA, which starts at 12.3.4 and now updated to 12.4. There's no point in keeping the store version anymore because there were some major fixes in SPMC, especially in 12.4 regarding playback which plagued all previous versions.
