I think this will be highly successful for a Microconsole sale point of view and a moderately-poor one on Nintendo's scale. The original Wii has been said to be doing just as well in the USA as said here so I doubt there will be a tree without a Nintendo console under it this year. I'd say bring it on as anything more for them is always welcomed in my book.

I know the Wii is not the pinnacle of digital game shopping ,and online multiplayer ,but for what it does offer it seems kind of ridiculous to strip the online feature out of it.

I mean besides classic Virtual Console games the Wii Shop Channel had Castlevania/Contra Rebirth, Lost Winds, Dr. Mario, Cave Story, La-Maluna, and a few other great games. So now "new" Wii owners are forced to miss out on gems that barely even got a chance to begin with?

Then games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros (when it worked right mind you), and Conduit 2 (hell even the Wii CODs) had reasonably good online mutliplayer modes ,and their removing that too just seems ridiculous.

*stares at his PS3 XMB screen* hmm now i feel like playing La-Maluna ,or Metroid Prime Trilogy hmm to Wii ,or not to Wii lol
OUYA GAMES BOUGHT SHADOWGUN, GIANA SISTERS, HEROES OF LOOT, PIZZA BOY, BARDS TALE,NEON SHADOW,AND KNIGHTMARE TOWER

At $99, this is more or less a terrible purchase. Someone would be much better off tracking down a second-hand Gamecube-compatible Wii. Stripping the online components completely neuters games like Animal Crossing. If this were closer to $70, then it might be worth overlooking its shortcomings, but I have a feeling that anyone who really wants a Wii already has one (or two).

It would be cool ... but I heard it doesnt have wifi which makes it pretty useless to me. I still have an original wii that works fine. I still think the wii is a great console.

The PS Vita TV makes more sense than this. At least those are recent games and have online ability. They should have just discounted the normal wii to $100. This doesn't even come with any games. I do suppose if it sells well nintendo will make a decent amount on it as it has to be very cheap to make at this point especially with everything they cut out. Also, without online it loses any media capabilities such as the always popular netflix. I could see it being a decent choice for parents to get young kids but can't imagine any other use for it.

$100 is definitely the magic price point for cheaper or microconsole game systems. Affirms Ouya was right to go for that price point. We will definitely so both a battle for the high end systems with ps4, xbox one, wii u, as well as a battle for the cheaper systems of Ouya, Vita TV, Gamestick, Gamepop, Wii mini and somewhere in between there is Mojo and maybe nvidia shield since it connects to tv. Should be interesting how it all plays out.

oooooh, missed it by that much. Good idea, terrible idea to take out internet connectivity. A completely useless console IMO.

Yeah.. kinda amazing.. It would seem to mean they plan on shutting of the Internet hub for the Wii in the not to distant future. Otherwise you would have thought the digital distribution method would have been the long term solution for the Wii Mini..
