    file explorer

hi all. new here so first thing is to say hi.

i am a total noob to OUYA, so i hope you'll be a little patient with me. i am sure the questions i ask will have been asked before, so a bit of promting may well be enough.

anyway, read around the forum about putting games and apps on the OUYA from a USB stick. if i am right, from what i understand, i need to put a file manager on the OUYA first. i read where ES File Explorer works fine as long as not using the latest version, so on the OUYA i downloaded 3.0.5.3, installed it and tried to open it. it immediately closed, showing nothing. thinking it was the version i shouldn't use, i uninstalled it and downloaded/installed the previous version, 3.0.5.2. same thing happened. am i doing something wrong or need an even earlier version? do i need to root the OUYA?
what i want to do, if possible, is simply be able to move stuff from my pc to the OUYA via either a USB drive or an sd card in a card reader. so, am i doing things totally wrongly? am i just missing something silly? can i not do this at all?

    hope someone will advise please.

    many TIA

The recent versions of ES File Explorer crash upon start-up for whatever random reason. The version you want to try is 3.0.5.1 as it's the one that we all use which doesn't crash. No you don't need to root.

That one is good too while also working, but doesn't have the additions and fixes of the later version that I named.

i didn't realise i had been logged out so my post updated with the next question didn't appear, or i dont think so, anyway.

i wanted to thank the guys who advised me on the file manager. that's working now, as far as i can tell. i haven't rooted the OUYA yet, as it seems not worth it, if it has to be redone after every update. i'll be guided by you experts on that.
my next question is, how to i change the size of the screen? atm, if i am in a settings screen for example, or when looking at the file explorer window, it's too big, so i need to bring all four edges in a bit. where and how to change that please?

Thats an overscan issue with your TV. You need to change your TV settings make sure its in game mode or possibly PC. Or if you can manually set the resolution.

so the change needs to be done in the tv settings themselves and not in the OUYA? will look at that in a little while then. got to go out for a while.

tnx for the further info. you have all been very helpful. i appreciate it. will try to leave you all alone for a while now. :-)

    many tnx

back again guys. is it ok to ask something else from inside this post? if so, can someone guide me with this please?
thanks to the help already received, i have got es file explorer on the OUYA and working. i put a couple of game downloads into a folder on an sd card inside a card reader. i can see those games. my thinking was then wrong, i guess. i was given the option of installing those games and i thought they would be installed where they should be, on the OUYA. that appears to not be the case. i have no idea where they went, but going to 'PLAY' showed me nothing (with the sd card inserted or not inserted). all i was directed to do was go to the 'DISCOVER' option to get some games.

so, am i right in assuming the games were not installed on the OUYA? if they were, where are they? i uninstalled them, thinking they had somehow been installed on the sd card? wrong thinking, perhaps? how do i get to install the games from the sd card on to the OUYA so they are seen there and can be played? i cant see any option of copying them from the sd card individually or together in the folder to somewhere on the OUYA.

next question is, how doyou delete things from the OUYA? remembering that i had 2 versions of es file explorer that i downloaded on to the OUYA which didn't work, i cant se any option other than to install or uninstall. i would like to get rid of them completely, keeping on the OUYA just what i need to keep. any way of doing that?

many tnx again guys. if i have done wrong by asking further in the same post, tell me what to do and i'll start a new post

If you installed those games like I linked you to, then they should be under MAKE from the OUYA menu.

*EDIT Hold on. I'm turning on my console.

    Yes, it's okay.

Go into the main menu on your OUYA and go into MAKE > Software. It should be there.
