    Ur-Quan Masters HD - Pelya

Hmm, been on the store a couple of days and nobody has mentioned it, so here's a thread. Why nobody has mentioned it is beyond me. Star Control II for the Ouya remastered in High Definition, what's not to like? A Bonafide classic in it's day and one Hell of a game. Looks to be a freebie to bott, so come all, play one of the greatest space startegy games of all time. Could be worse, you could be paying upwards of $100.00 for the 3DO version, after all.

It's nothing like Metroid, that's for sure.

The text is quite small, so I find myself having to sit much closer, and the font from the lander is really hard to read, so I basically ignore it.

Having a blast playing it again, though! Still working out the controls...don't want to sit down with this unless I've got some time, as it's a MAJOR time sink.

I haven't played it yet. I'll probably do that later today. Can't skip freebies. This is what reminds me of Metroid.

The alien monster and the colors they chose for it.

Star Control 2 is one of THE great games and has eaten up hours of my life in the past, look forward to revisiting this one for sure. The only gripe is that such a huge download (well, huge by OUYA standards, it's close to 1 gig) is going to take up a not inconsiderable chunk of storage. Just as well external storage is on the way, I'm having to make some tough game decisions lately.

I saw this on there and was ready to download...then I saw the nearly 1GB download and my heart sunk. This is one I can't possibly download until USB storage goes live. I'm guessing I'm not the only one in that boat, so that might be why no one is talking about it.

For those who'd like more info on what exactly this is about:

Yeah I am in the same boat. Tried to download but was shocked at the size! External USB support can't come quick enough lol

Ur Quan Masters is a 3DO remake of Star Control 2 from the trilogy originally developed for MS DOS. They renamed it Ur Quan Masters when they ported it to the 3DO

It was still Star Control II on the 3DO (I had it until I needed some quick cash *SIGH*). The rename was due to the trademark being retained by the publisher Accolade:

Got to love the corporate BS...as always. According to the UQM wiki, it's now owned by Stardock. http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Star_Control_Trademark

Thanks for the heads up. I always heard they used the subtitle just because but yeah a trademark issue would make more sense lol.

No, that is not accurate. It's called Star Control II on the 3DO as well. Point is that the original developers got the rights back to the game itself and decided to release it as a public Domain game. However, they were not allowed to get the name Star Control as it is still copyrighted, so they renamed the game The Ur-Quon Masters. There you have it, sir. lol

As for you... The hell you talkin' about man? I haven't seen you in like a week so of course you haven't seen anybody talk about the game

On a on-topic note. I think the game looks interesting and while I don't know what you guys are getting from this(Star Control 2 thingy). It at least seems like something that would garner a lot of interest and satisfied players.
Hola Riot. I've been around, just lurking mostly as I bummed waiting for NEON SHADOW to release. Dunno' why though as I won't be able to play it anyway because of the memory issues at this point. LOL

Seriously though, after seeing this in action, as my buddy also has an Ouya that isn't full, I am a little upset with the "HD" aspect of the game. All they did was stretch the screen to 16 x 9 from the original 4:3 aspect ratio maiing it just look stretched. I would rather they went back with the 4:3 aspect with some artwork for side bars, or even Black Bars at this point as the stretched picture just looks bad to me. Still, a great game though.
