Just beat the game (but not with all 5 emeralds). so much love has been put into it. If this would have been released back in the early 90s it would have been an instant classic.

Its one of my favorite games on the Ouya. The difficulty curve is spot on so far.

I'm in the same boat as you. This game looks awesome, but no matter what I do, I cannot get past the title screen. I have done several reboots, unpaired all bluetooth devices, made sure no USB devices were connected, etc. No luck. I have also tried using an XBOX 360 controller to no avail. This is the only game I have had any controller issues with. All of my controllers work properly.
    Any suggestions?

If you have other controllers besides the Ouya controller paired to it (like a PS3 controller, for example), the game will exhibit that glitch.

See below for what I did:

I have three paired devices: the Ouya controller and two PS3 controllers. The PS3 controllers are listed under Paired Devices (Manage/Controller/Bluetooth Settings), but they're both disconnected. Under Available Devices, I see a string of numbers and letters - another bluetooth device - but I have no idea what it is, and it requires a code to activate (very weird).

There's no way to completely delete any of the controllers under Paired Devices...or is there?

    What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Figured it out! Had to mouse over to the switchers/levers on the right side of each controller listed. That brought up a new screen, where I was able to unpair my two PS3 controllers. I hope this glitch gets fixed in the game, but I'm actually glad in a way because I had accidentally paired my main PS3 controller in addition to the spare I have for Ouya, PC, etc., and I didn't know how to get rid of it from the settings.

I had to use the PS3 controller. It wouldn't work with my Ouya pad, even when it was the only thing sync'd. We played old school pass the controller style for a least 2 to 3 hours last Sunday. I even got a free bowl of chili and a glass of brandy while playing. Best part of the Ouya is taking it to a friends house and making and event out of it. Games as a shared experience, who could have predicted that?

Thanks for the reply. I had actually already unpaired my PS3 controller to no avail. To make it work, I had to unpair everything, including a bluetooth keyboard I had been using. After unpairing that, and restarting to clear it from the bluetooth list, the game worked!

Totally agree! My friends and I have had a great time with games like this and with multiplayer games on the OUYA. Our favorites have probably been: Bombball, Bombsquad, Towerfall, Stalagflight, and Hidden in Plain Sight. I think this may be soon added to that list.

Weird, I just tried using my PS3 controller with Maldita Castilla and it worked. But my Ouya controller isn't working with the game. I know it's beacuse my PS3 controller is paired. I'm very sure last time I was having issues neither Ouya or PS3 controller would work.

    Anyone else notice this lately?

I have beel playing this game all day and loving it. it is way too difficuly for my tired old fingers, but it is fun. I must have use 60 0r 70 continues by now 4 continues for a soul? Ha!

For everybody who has been having controller issues, is it possible that this is simply a matter of controller numbers. I have two ordinary ouya controllers. They are paired as 1 and 2. Controller number 1 has one light, controller number 2 has 2 lights.

Controller 1 always works with this game, and controller 2 never works with this game.

All this talk about pairing and un-pairing controllers fixing it sometimes makes me thing the real important issue is not what kind of controller, or whether or not other controllers are paired, but WHICH controller number it is paired as.

I am currently stuck on the vertical level with the cauldrons that spit green bubbles at you. I gate the insta-kill spikes! Anyway, now it is time for me to turn off my TV and leave my OUYA paused until next weekend
