    Jumping Jack - TCKSoft

My first OUYA game - only had the machine just over a week so I'm getting used to it's little quirks still.

It's a remake of a 16K ZX Spectrum game from 30 years ago, and one of the original jumping games, way before Doodle Jump was a glint in the milkman's eye.

Thanks to everyone who take a look in advance... and especially to anyone who chooses to unlock and play it more.

I loved this on my Spectrum - I bought it from a free paper classified for around £2 and had to walk about 3 miles to pick it up.
I'll definitely give this a pop - I don't think I ever completed it but got quite far.
Is there an option to choose the original colour scheme ?

Hi there Dave. I'm glad I'm not the only one here who remembers the game fondly.

I went with darker colours because my first Android game on Google Play kept a brighter scheme and some people complained.

If I get around to doing an update then maybe I can add in a colour set that's closer to the original game if it's something people want.

I hope you enjoy my version. I think it's a little faster too, but I've tried to keep the whole spirit of the game intact as I can.

Enjoyed the game and always liked it on the Speccy. Not sure it can compete with other titles for $1.99 though to be honest. I know it's all pennies but it is a pure remake of a Spectrum game after all - there are whole websites dedicated to that online that let you download them all for free! Still enjoyed it though, so well done!

Thanks for having a play Alex. It's 99p on Google Play had has sold quite well - was torn over setting it at 99c or $1.99 but it's current price is closer to the price on phones/tablets and it took me a week to get all the extra controller code and IAP working as well as changing the resolution to stay out of the safe zone, which isn't an issue on standard Android (to my knowledge).

I actually have a lot of games available on the PC for free too so I know what you mean. I've been remaking games and making a few more original retro style games for over a dozen years now on PC, on and off. I did some other classic Spectrum game remakes on PC (Trashman, Transversion, Impossaball, NOMAD, Anarchy) which I'm still very proud of.

If it gets some sales then that's all gravy but I made it mostly for myself anyway. I'm a hobby coder and if I get a bit of pocket money to keep me topped up with coffee then all the better.

I've spookily hacked the price of the full game unlock in half - until Halloween.

Nice! What does it cost? I'm sorry if you've mentioned it but in that case I missed it.

Having never played Jumping Jack before, I found it to be a ton of fun - bought it and I'll have some video of it up on Youtube later.

    Edit - done!

    Thanks for posting that, MGFanJay.

I think I need to make the controls more clear... You can move left and right with the bumpers - it's mentioned at the start of the scrolling instructions, but I guess I need to put it on screen in big text too

Move left and right with the left and right bumpers, and use O to jump. You can also wrap around the left and right of the screen to help you avoid holes too.

Maybe I need to add stick and dpad movement too, but the bumpers felt better to play it with to me.

Thanks for checking it out, I'm glad you had fun - although it will be easier if you can run now.
