Wow, it certainly has been a long time since I've laid eyes on this game! Glad to see you've ported it. I'm very curious how the controller will translate with this game.
Do you remember this game? If you were witness to the grand ol' days of MSDOS, you'll be pleased to see this classic action RPG emerging again on OUYA.
Gladiator is fast-paced action in the vein of Gauntlet for up to 4 players. Make an army from among 14 different classes and direct the battle as one of the troops. There are lots of levels to explore and enemies to defeat for XP and gold. Gladiator includes an integrated level editor and sharing support is currently being built.
I hope you all love it! We sure do. There's no better place for a cooperative multiplayer game than in front of the TV with your friends. Let us know what you think.
Gladiator is based on the Openglad project. You can find it and give us a hand on Github: https://github.com/openglad/openglad

Yep, it's at least 18 years old now! I couldn't stop playing it as a kid, so I've considered myself very fortunate to get the time and skills since then to fix it up and improve it.
It's great having a controller for it. The original was such a pain because there was no way to fit all of your friends on one keyboard without crowding and key ghosting. And of course splitscreen works better on TVs. There are many other improvements in this version that you'll be pleased to see.
If you know anyone else who loved this game back when, please spread the word! I want everyone to know that it's not dead or gone forever and that it's better than they remember.
I'll check it out! Thanks!

Finally got a chance to give it a couple run-throughs today. All my old shareware game memories came flooding back, haha.
We should start sharing strategies on here. I was trying my best to remember what I used to do...I think I used to just hire a ton of Orcs to start with and then start replacing the ones that died with Clerics and Archers, but I can't remember...
Gotta love that feeling!
I used to go as a Mage and have some friends protect me until I was strong enough to destroy armies myself. Mages have a lot of fun special abilities. Nowadays I think I prefer a small team of beefy guys, like Barbarians, with a couple of backup units. The challenge is keeping them all alive. To that end, I made the results screen and retry button. Much better!![]()
I tried to play and like this game. I never played the original. I wish I had because I just can't get into this whatsoever. I'm sure it is nostalgic for people but I just flat out don't like it.

Doh, sorry it wasn't good for you. Do you have any suggestions? Is it just the style of game or something else?
I like the strategy part but I really have a problem with the battles. I can't tell when I'm attacking it just getting the shit beat outta me.

Yeah, I can understand that. The original didn't even have the mini HP bars, so you didn't know when/if an enemy was going to die or which teammates needed help. The attack animations give pretty limited feedback, too. I'll see about improving the combat feedback.
