If that means that Unity will get a Linux editor out of it, then great! Otherwise, this doesn't affect me.. so I say feh![]()

Samsung wants to make its software better, but the successful Korean hardware vendor apparently doesn't believe it can do that on its own. Samsung, like practically every successful giant does in this situation, is eyeing a move into the Silicon Valley tech hub in order to acquire the companies and talent that can make its products better.
The Wall Street Journal has published a report that says Samsung wants to "overcome its key weakness: software" and go on a shopping spree to accomplish its goals. The company reportedly wants to push deeper into mobile gaming, location data, and sharing services. Samsung has set aside $1.1 billion to invest in new startups that may be ripe for strategic partnerships or acquisitions, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The report claims to have obtained an internal document that shows a list of companies Samsung would target for mergers and acquisitions. Samsung targeted Atari as a way to build on the intellectual property of the famous gaming company, but those plans never materialized into a deal. It also missed out a chance to acquire Waze, which was eventually snapped up by Google. Other companies on the list that could still be targets include:
- Unity Technologies, a gaming developer responsible for the popular 3D engine used in many notable games.
- Green Throttle Games, a company specializing in mobile-friendly controllers and connecting phones/tablets to TV's.
- Glympse, a company with an app of the same name that shares location with a select group of contacts.

I'm more of a Monogame guy than a Unity script kid.. But I can say this would be better than Apple buying them. I think Samsung would continue to allow Unity to be cross platform so long as they focus on Tizan and Android first. I'm pretty sure Apple would shut down every export but iOS.
I don't mind anyone buying it if it leaves free computer and android builds

With these things, it can sometimes in hindsight end up damaging the company long term, while other times, despite skepticism, the business goes from strength to strength as a result of those economies of scale the parent company can offer.
Think personally, I'd prefer Unity to stay independent, but realistically, if it happens, I'm not going to stop using it just because
I seriously seriously hope it doesn't buy up Unity, it's so easy to make the wrong steps forward with this kind of thing and software has fallen in the past because of it, especially when there's a conflict of interest (I.E. It wants to specifically improve its own platform while Unity is a really great multi-platform tool).
It's like when Autodesk bought Maya. 3ds Max and Maya were both 'giants' in regards to 3d tools, and because they were owned by separate companies each one was trying to out-do the other. Now that Autodesk owns both it tries to separate the tools in each software so that a lot of studios have to purchase Maya and 3ds Max if they want the best of both worlds.
IF they are going to buy unity, that means Sammy is probably preparing their own android game console
But anyway.
I don't care, I usually works with C and C++
and if they decide to lock it up, then good for them
I actually doubt they'll be willing to sell, unless they get a very very good deal - of course!
The guys over at Unity seems to value service a lot, and if Samsung cannot promise to keep up the good reputation of Unity, I find it hard to believe that they'll sell. Even if they get a good offer from Samsung.
But - as always - "money talks", so let's see what happens!
