"Rose & Time" pulled from Discover as result of FTG Response

Sad. I really liked that game, here's a quote from developer Sophie Houlden

"It’s their inability to admit that they have f***ed up," said Houlden. "S**t is blowing up on all sides, every single piece of PR that is put out damages OUYA’s reputation more, and the plastic-marketing-smile never seems to come off. They never get serious to deal with stuff. They never change course when things are going down the toilet."

That blog was posted eleven hours ago while this Twitter message was posted ten hours ago. Did she get talked back into re-supporting OUYA and forgot to take down the blog, or will remove it tomorrow?

I just got my OUYA and I was super disappointed when I found out this game got pulled. I wish that I had downloaded it already so I could play it. Is there any way to get it still?

That's very interesting, I wonder what Julie told her

Something tells me, we will be finding out soon

I'm curious myself because Sophie was obviously pissed off and also wonder what Julie could of said to her to calm her down. Hopefully nothing that can't be shared with the rest of us.

Regardless of how "indie" Ouya is or wants to be, they are seeking some measure of mainstream success, and sports is a genre that typically sees plenty of mainstream sales. I like sports, used to play football and basketball (though I have no interest in "watching" sports anymore), so a football game on Ouya would have been a plus and something I would actually purchase. Rag on sports games as much as you want, but the kind of head-to-head multiplayer that you get with games like Tecmo Bowl and Double Dribble on the NES, or a game like 4th & Inches on the C64, are hard to replicate elsewhere. I kind of like the idea of a truly indie football game that at least tries to do things a bit differently, since just about every game has basically been an attempt to copy Madden on a one-to-one scale for the last quarter of a century (to the point that it's the only game in town...sorry 2K series), but a one-to-one clone of a 15-year old, over-the-top game (Blitz) that's already done and taking Kickstarter and Ouya for a ride isn't anything close to what I had in mind.

Regardless of how Ouya deals with it (and I hope they do something decisive), I'll be doing the only thing I really can, and that's not buying it. That's not because I dislike sports games, but because I don't like unethical BS from a developer that could have obviously self-financed the title (and really got truly GREEDY with the shady Kickstarter goings-on as things progressed).
Absolutely. I'm not a huge fan of sports games, but in my retail days, you couldn't keep the newest Madden, etc on the shelf for months after it's release. Sports games are high demand items on consoles.

As I was telling you in chatbox yesterday, it's annoying that this is all about the "in" crowd. I hate to be a Johnny Raincloud here, but this is an attempt at damage control. Not an attempt to make amends. If Sophie hadn't been a featured dev at one point, I'm pretty sure Julie would not have bothered to talk to her at all. It looks exceedingly bad to have a spot lighted developer turn on you. Would Rose and Time have been successful if it were in the FTGF? I have serious doubts. Not because it's not a good game, but because a few of the games pitched there so far that look as good as hers have been struggling.

Whatever Sophie said to Julie, I hope it was framed in that context.

But on the other hand.. why did she reach out to one developer when there are many MANY others (developers and gamers) who've been voicing the same concerns? Was it because of the threat of pulling the app and the inevitable extended PR nightmare from that? If that's true, maybe that should be considered before we set ourselves up for disappointment again. I hate being so pessimistic about this, but ... this is coming off as just as exploitative as anything else that's been attempted.

This was an interesting twitter exchange

    ★ Sophie Houlden
chatted with @juhrman for an hour on skype. I think we both got a lot out of it and my faith in OUYA's intentions has been restored a lot.

    Richard Perrin
@S0phieH Did you get any clarification about how they're handling the Gridiron situation? As that is more my concern than their intentions.

    ★ Sophie Houlden ‏
@PerrinAshcroft somewhat, I don't want to just repost without giving a heads-up, but I think a lack of "congrats to gridiron" is telling.

Did we just get real? I-I'm checking the internet's pulse right now. Yep... We just got real. Something good happened for sure, but I hope it's the absolute worst case scenario for Gridiron Thunder.

Not to be "that" person, but... I frickin' hate sports!
