    King of Opera - Tuokio

King of Opera, the best party game on iOS now on Ouya! Who will be king of the couch?

Especially great as a family game - we hope that Ouya users will like it!

Not gonna lie, it looks cool. Though I'm not getting the objective of the game. Do you have to mash buttons when the spotlight hits you or?....

Its like Opera Sumo Wrestling, the object is to knock your opponents off the stage. Pretty fun, and it has AI for single player. It's also pretty well made, and the full game gives you a lot more modes and stuff for $15

While I love the look of the game it's a bit galling that it's £1.49 on iOS and $14.99 on OUYA - what can possibly justify such a huge price hike. There also seems to be the odd graphic that is left over from the touchscreen version and isn't needed on the OUYA.

I'll play it with my friends and see what we all think, but I have to admit the price is way too high really - I'd be more inclined to get it for the iPad.

One suggestion for an update - is it not possible to let people play with a single pad by pressing the relevant buttons on the OUYA controller? I don't know if this was the intention but I couldn't seem to do it on mine - Y and A seem mapped to other functions anyway.

One final point - the way it makes you wait 15 seconds before allowing you to back out of the purchase screen (on the first time at least) is incredibly annoying. I can't believe for a second that will encourage anyone to buy the game.

Love the look and concept - but I'd lower the price to bring it more in line with iOS, maybe slightly more expensive to justify the work in bringing it to console etc.

Actually I had a similar feeling without even the knowledge of an iOS version, and this stands true for a large portion of OUYA games. The only way I have found to justify these price hikes is the lack of in game ads, and added controller support, however I have seen some games that were inflated at least 2-5x times the price of their ios/android versions, which is a lot to ask someone who will not be able to use the game on any other device or has previously bought it for another one.

Not to mention piracy on OUYA is nearly non existent in comparison to those other markets, yet it seems like we are the ones targeted to make up for their lack of profits, rather then there actually being a need for a price increase due to the extra development costs. I'm sure that games like The Walking Dead or Sine Mora cost a lot more to port over to OUYA then these games already made for mobile devices, yet you don't see their publishers trying to squeeze out a few extra bucks from its customers.

Maybe this discussion would be better suited in its own thread. This is not to be taken as an attack on this game, or its developer by any means. It has been a common occurrence with games ported to OUYA for sometime now, and I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has taken notice. The game in question just happens to bring up the case in point.

Reminds me of the Spin Wars, which is free IIRC

TripleXXXBalla explained this already a little bit but to add to that - different game modes have different objective from knocking others down to get and keep the spotlight to just catching the spotlight to score. Royal Rumble is a pure "death match" without the spotlight etc.

We priced King of Opera for Ouya following pricing of multiplayer games such as Tower Fall on Ouya.

The prices of games are lower on iOS and Android as you reach hundreds of millions potential players.

That's how we first implemented it but it didn't feel right, using multiple controllers works better and it's naturally how it historically has been done in party games.

We could maybe add an option for "single controller multiplayer" but we don't like options as they make things complex for everybody. However, if we or someone comes up with a neat way to do this we'll add the option.

We "copied" the implementation from Tower Fall, the most popular game on the platform as the model seems to be working in that game.

Exactly. Also, imo, it's difficult enough getting ONE controller to work with ouya, so multi controller games are just a no-no for me.

Thanks for replying - appreciated. I would say that I think Towerfall is over-priced but yes, it too has that $14.99 model.

The only thing I'd say about the comparison to Towerfall is that the game feels a little more complex than King of Opera, though maybe the other modes bulk out the complexity a bit. The other thing is that Towerfall isn't available on another system for nearly 10% of the price, which I think might work against you.

There are plenty of multiplayer games on OUYA that are not so highly priced - but of course it's up to you guys and I wish you the best of luck nonetheless.

Regarding the controller - I think the issue is that few people will have four OUYA controllers so allowing multiple players on one pad would allow four players on two pads, for instance. But yes, I can see the problem with adding too many features and so on!

Yes I have noticed that too - Nimble Quest is another one...I think it's $0.99 on iOS and $4.99 on OUYA for the exact same game. You expect a bit of a mark-up perhaps but not 500%.

We felt that King of Opera provides equal or more value with the additional game modes but "value" is a highly personal thing.

We also felt that the price is maybe high but on Ouya platform it's seems to be a price that works for TowerFall developer.

We can always lower the price if the general feedback is that it's over-priced but we don't have enough feedback to make that call.

Yeah, we'll have to think about it. We e.g. use Playstation controllers so we figured that maybe other people do it the same way.

The game works the best as a four player game so this is of a major concern to us though.
