It pretty much does two things:

Basically how most people use it is for the 'main feed' which you can see. They post a status update for things that aren't really worth a whole thread Example: "just beat my score on Hyperchase" and it allows other users to comment/reply to it "cool bro, I could never get the controls to work for me." One important factor is that the author of the update has the ability to do some very basic functions like delete any comments on it (or the update itself).

The other thing it does is function as basic status. Members of AA can click on other members names, and their status shows at the top of their personal screen.

A person can also have only one status at a time (since it's a status).
Finally got time to work on some things that have built up. I can't access AtariAge anymore, but I get the overall idea you're wanting and will look for add-ons that correlate with your idea. Killswitch's add-on suggestion could be interesting, however it's not supported and has known bugs that may cause us issues.

I'd also like to add this one. Live Topic.

Another one. A timer for signatures. Perfect when you want to put a Kickstarter project and the timer for it on your sig.
First one could be possible. It would be for Supporters only though.

This one is a no since server resources is something that would get crippled by an add-on like this and even if our user-base isn't that big, it would cause more harm than good.

This one is not supported.
