But there are plenty of good games on the Ouya...
Towerfall
FF3
Bombsquad
Sine Mora
Ballistic
Order and Chaos Online
and many more.
But whatever... whether someone considers a game good or not is partly subjective.

Google play was never needed for most of those app, not when you can sideload Amazon app store with no modifications needed, and install Netflix. If you want YouTube, sideload flash player and use the browser, or install xbmc and install the YouTube add-on. I bet Amazon has all of those apps you listed, that alone makes GP irrelevant

I like the aesthetics of the OUYA store. It's cute.
I can imagine the Play Store looking strange on a TV screen, and harder to navigate.
I didn't expect a Halo, Forza or Ratchet and Clank from OUYA but I do like some of the games they have, I've downloaded about 20 or so. If they would port some of the stuff that's already out for Android I think that would increase the number of good/better games on OUYA. I like the space combat sims I've downloaded for my tablet and would love to see them on here. I think they would play better with a controller instead of on my tablet. Asteroids 2012 3D and Alliance of Worlds are two I'd definitely like to see, AoW reminds me of X-Wing and Tie Fighter. OUYA just came out so it needs time to get those killer apps and games are being added almost on a daily basis. Give it time.
There are a lot of good to great games on Play, but the catch is meager storage space in Ouya. Kind of no point until there is, but the advantage for current Android users is no side loading, no buying some apps twice and no waiting for ports. Games that are gamepad optional have mapping and more released/updated all the time due to Nvidia pushing devs to offer support in their apps for gamepad mapping. Well, that and the growing controller market complimenting the mapping support.
I get why Ouya can not allow it unless they want to kill themselves, but saying Play is not a good option for users is respectfully silly.
Still, since low app storage, no harm no foul.
But the difference is.. the phone games in OUYA have been re-factored to use the controller, and developers actually have to change their app to make it compatible with controllers. Most GP exclusive devs have no real incentive to do that (yet). So most games from GP, even if they execute on OUYA via side load, will be very hit or miss as to whether they are playable or not.
