Thread: Ya know....

    Ya know....

I joined this page a few days ago after I saw the Ouya in an advertisement for Best Buy. I remembered the Kickstarter and was intrigued. After doing some research and finding this page I started lurking around. But after reading all the issues people seem to be having, at this point I don't think the Ouya is worth the hassle, even as a $100 console. I realize I am only seeing one side of the story, so I ask you. What is so good about the Ouya? Are you having fun with it? Is it worth my time now or is it better to hold off for a revision?

Mostly, people get online to discuss the issues they are having. So naturally, the topics will mostly be about problems. If things work, people just enjoy them instead of going online.

Personally I have so much fun with my Ouya I don't even know where to start. I use it to emulate all my older games so that I don't have to keep every console plugged in, I have found at least 20 really good games in the OUYA Store (paid and free) that I'm playing regularly and I'm streaming my computers media library at a pace where I easily watch about 2-3 hours of stuff every day. The Ouya has become the center of my living room - even with its limitations.

As with the future revision - I don't know. I rarely speculate about things like that.

Hold off for a revision? That's not something on the horizon hopefully. The thing just came out like 2 months ago.

People are having minor issues just like with any new product. Just like cars when there is a new model or a video game system. Might be a few having major issues but most of those are getting resolved. Though there are some that are never happy.

Ouya is a baby company still trying to reach for the table to stand up and then work on walking and saying 'momma' 'daddy'. They are supposedly working behind the scenes to fix issues or they're partying until they're purple.

The internet is full of weirdos, I wouldn't trust them

Ouya hopefully has a nice long life ahead of it, if not then enjoy it while it's here.

The Ouya is great fun and my whole family enjoys it. However, much like if you were buying a Wii U, you will encounter Early Adopter issues.

Though it may not seem like much right now, I can say without a doubt that the Ouya may be the best purchase I ever made in years...Not only do I get lot of unique and interesting titles play to play on my TV(better than the mainstream rehashed, souless, staggnating drek), I can also development my own games for it(I'm in the process of making an exclusive mascot platformer)! Every Ouya can be developed with- and best of all, the ODK is free. IMHO it was worth every penny.

If you ever get one, may I reccomend trying these games for starters:

    Wilson's Adventure

    Deep Dungeons of Doom

    BombSqaud

    Heavy Recoil

    Don't Eat Soap

Depends on what you want out of it. I bought one for emulation purposes. For the price, I got a machine that fills that role with ease. Everything else is a huge bonus. OUYA games are fun, Android apps games and live wallpapers on the big screen are fun. Tweaking and hacking and modding are fun.

the ouya works well for me as a media streamer. i like being able to emulate older games. there are quite a few real nice games on the ouya. it seems like many more are coming.

i would say that it is a great purchase, but i stopped going to the gym before work so i could sneak some time playing games while my wife wasn't watching.

i don't know about "waiting for a revision" they are constantly revising it, and the more units bought means better games and great joy. buy it!

I bought mine almost exclusively as a media streaming - specifically XBMC. That turned out to be not nearly as cool as I thought or what I wanted... until I found Plex. Plex is amazing!!!

That said, I can't stop playing the games. Aside from the awesome emulator support, there is a real sense of community with the games. The devs chime in on the boards, take feedback, and make the game better for it. It's reductive to call this just phone games on your tv and just because Ouya is lacking Call of Duty 19 or Gears of Uncharted 8, there is a ton of fun to be had.

It does need some work and it's not perfect, but I think people forget how horrid the PS3 experience was at launch and even the 360 to a much lesser degree. The internet loves to hate, so that is why the perception is not truly the reality in regards to the Ouya. Most hate comes from those that have never played an Ouya and are just bored waiting around for the next EA or Activision release.

This console is an absolute steal at $99 even in light of it's somewhat minor issues. I don't think it's for the average ma and pop consumer, but if you're posting within an actual Ouya message board me thinks you are the kind of person that would enjoy it.

If you're only going to play native games on Ouya don't get it. There are some nice games for sure, but not enough to justify it.
