The "Free to Play" is not a very good term, why not call it just Demo or even free to try, another thing is they should add a comment section like the android market, it always helps in influencing a buy.

I think the problem with a lot of the games you see on Ouya is that they're really casual-type games. They're designed for quick hits of gameplay. Games like Canabalt and Organ Quest, that basically offer rationed (yet unlimited) free-to-play really don't offer much incentive to purchase them. At that point, the price almost has to be very, very low to get the sale. At the same time, games that offer a mere taste of the gameplay before you hit the paywall, then hit you with a price tag two to three times higher than expected also can't be selling very well (although depending on the game, I really don't have an issue with higher prices; more gameplay and polish generally means more expended resources...you generally have to pay for that). Ultimately, I'm not really sure anything should be changed from an ideological perspective ("free-to-play" was kind of the Ouya mantra), but I'm not sure it's good for developers. That said, the developers are the ones deciding what "free-to-play" is, and can change it at any time, so to some extent, it's on them. Whatever the case, prices need to be displayed up front, on the detail page. I've never seen a system so backward that you don't know what you're paying until after you select how you'll be paying (and your pin, as the case may be). It's off-putting to me, and throws a negative slant on making purchases.

But in a lot of cases, it's actually free to play...games that basically offer the entire experience in a rationed form. Play for a while, pay to play more now or come back tomorrow. A lot of people will just come back tomorrow, especially if they have other things to do (or games to play, which there's no shortage of on the Ouya).

My point to him was OUYA calls it "Free to Try" and not "Free to Play"... as he was suggesting they should change it from "Free to Play" to "Free to Try"... its already called that.. so no changing needed.. Hence why the title of the post is called "Shoud OUYA drop Free to Try"..

Ireally don't think the problem is free to try. Ouya must show prices, it's not the price but the aura of flim-flamery. What would you think about buying a car or tv or even a coffee if the vender said we won't tell you the price just in case it puts you off but try it for an hour and we'll tell you then.

It has put me off buying a few games that once i new what it was i could decide safely.

If OUYA meant free to play as in buy little things here and there as bonuses but the content is free (like O&C etc) then I don't want it. I won't buy a game or any part of a game with consumable IAPs.

the big 3 have trials or demo thats basically what ouya is doing. But then again the big 3 also show you the price before u download a game, do people buy the games? YES! I shouldnt have to go on an adventure to buy a game. In fact, alot of the games I bought for my ouya showed there price in its description before i downloaded it.

The free to try is good for the gamer, me, especially when I get enough free game to judge whether I want to buy it.

So if you care about pay to play games, then wat about the ppl who cant afford to waste money , or cant afford it at all? Perhaps the kids who own OUYA love free games? Your just unthoughtful.
