I personally think Bombsquad is way better for multiplayer ALSO has a good single player ALSO costs 1/3 of Towerfall.

There's no way I can see Towerfall being more popular than Bombsquad. But Ouya is really trying hard to push Towerfall as a killer app for the system.
Part of me has wondered this... or if TowerFall has "paid" to be there... because I do find it surprising that it continues to lead. HOWEVER, if part of the O-RANK is actually dollar amount of sales, that could help explain it. O-RANK may include total dollar since in-game purchases need to be counted.. and since the game if $14.99 it equals 5 sales of a $2.99 game.. who knows.. would be nice to know more specifics on O-RANK.

It's success blows my mind as it doesn't interest me whatsoever.

You too, huh? Here I thought I was the only one. I think one of the reasons why this did so well was because of the Veblen Good effect.

As much as we can shovel onto the store to say "Hey, we have over 300 games!".

I can never have too many retro. It all comes down to personal preference, I guess. Some might see it good, others might see it bad.

They call them 'retro' but in reality I feel that many of these 'developers' just don't have the skill to make a modern game.

Way to support your indie devs, bro. Maybe there should only be 20 games 1 of which is AAA and only 1 of which is retro style? Maybe you should buy a PS4 or XboxOne or something.

By the way, just to mull over the retro thing and cost thing, one of my favorite games ever, Ultima IV, was $59.95 retail in 1985 and is "retro" well because it actually is. I am flabbergasted to some extent about the crying over graphics and "oh no it's $5.99" etc. Just sayin'

I agree, I don't expect everyone to start out at the top, just imagine if 5 years from now one of these guys designs the next big thing, and your like "dude I used chat it up with him on ouyaforum back when he was still making...."

To me if you can make an a 8-16bit masterpiece these days, just imagine what you can do with real resources and budget. Its not always that these guys aren't capable due to lack of ability or originality they are simply working with what they got, so yeah there is some room for leniency on OUYA when it comes to retro style games, or something that just hasn't been seen before.

Towerfall is an exclusive to OUYA until December, and OUYA gets around $4.50 of each sale if the standard 30% applies. OUYA really promoted it before it ended up at it's position in the O-Rank (likely a mutually beneficial negotiation point of that exclusivity). But unless the O-Ranking gets reset at some interval, Towerfall might have a really large head start compared to most games. That said, in most OUYA reviews, including the negative ones, it's almost always singled out as one of the "must downloads".

It seems that price is probably a factor in the O-ranking. But probably in some sort of distribution based on price/per engagement. (i.e. high priced games that get a lot of play probably get a better ranking than a lower priced game that gets the same amount of play because the time spent is somehow calculated to be worth more).
