The official thread is here.
Check: Chapter One
Check was a multi-chapter RPG I made a while back in RPG maker. Obviously limited by RPG makers software decisions, it didn't go anywhere, and despite making four of the five chapters in RPG maker, only the first two were ever released for around a year before I removed them both due to a lack of interest.
However, it was always in the back of my mind to remake the game someday. I really enjoyed writing the story, the characters, the world, everything about it. Mix this with my desire to develop for an actual console rather than mobile devices (ignoring any arguments that the OUYA is a mobile device), the OUYA seemed perfect for Check.
Check is a story driven RPG, which I am aiming mainly at bringing to the OUYA, although I have plans to release it on other devices in the future.
The Story
Check is an episodic J-RPG about an ancient war between two races of people within the world of Nolem. The game starts with a description as to how the war came about in ancient times, between the Empirians and the Emilians, due to the Emilians ability to cast magic and control the elements; or the Empirians lack of. Due to the war becoming heated to the point that the world of Nolem was shattered, eventually the conflict stopped and the war was ended with no victor.
The first chapter introduces the player to the first two protagonists (Sky and Apple) and antagonists (Lexine and Zarmen), as the two antagonists visit Sky and Apples isolated Emilian hometown of Yuita looking for a mystical item left behind from the war, said to be left on the summit of Mt Yuita. Sky and Apple get caught up and learn about this item, also getting caught up in an attempted revival of the ancient war, starting their adventure and changing their lives forever.
The gameplay is typical of a J-RPG style; You control Sky with (in most scenes) your party members following behind you. As with most RPG's, you can upgrade your equipment via buying weapons and armour in the shop in Yuita, or by finding them whilst on your adventure. The game employs random encounters and an ATB based battle system, and you gain experience via winning battles, allowing you to level up. While you are out of battle, the characters (Sky and Apple) will often talk while you are exploring, with self opening and closing dialogue boxes, which allow for constant character development outside of the main story.
Characters
Sky
Sky is a resident of the town Yuita, a poor town to the Northwest of Nolem, the world in which Check takes place in. He was told that his parents died a few years back, but he has no information as to how or why it happened. Sky sails the seas as a 'treasure hunter' as his father left him a ship before his disappearance, and it is the only way he knows how to make a living. Unsure with the direction his life is taking, Sky remains down to earth, and can be a stern character at times and is good at making decisions. Sky will only admit that he has one friend, whom he has been through almost everything with.
Apple
Apple is Sky's best childhood friend. Having gone through everything with him, she is completely loyal to Sky. Apple is a Witch; a person who can make elements out of 'thin air' and use them to her disposal. Although Apple should be capable at producing many elements, she always focuses on fire, and although will not admit it, is terrified of water. Apple spends most of her days drinking in the pub, and is often called an 'alcoholic' endearingly by the people who know her. Apple often practises her magic on Sky; by not only fighting him but then by practising her basic healing ability.
Lexine
A mysterious woman who Sky meets in Yuitas Pub. Lexine does not speak much to Sky upon meeting him, but Sky overhears her speaking to someone about a legendary item up the top of Mt. Yuita. Not much news reaches Yuita as it is so far away from other continents, and so this does not mean much to the residents there.

How linnear will the plot be? Will there be optional side-stories along the way? (I hesitate to say "side-quests," since quests never seem to have a lot of story to them.)
Looks so sexy... Can't wait to try this baybeh. Keep us updated, Poly.
The plot will be mostly linear for now. There are other things to do in the first and second chapter other than the main plot, but they're somewhat small and not that important. However the first two chapters are more about introducing the player to the characters and their personalities; the world really opens up in the third chapter, were the player is allowed to sail through the entire of Nolem in the boat, which has a lot of 'side-quests' to do that can assist you in the main journey. I'm talking too far ahead here thoughHow linnear will the plot be? Will there be optional side-stories along the way? (I hesitate to say "side-quests," since quests never seem to have a lot of story to them.)
But linear isn't bad. Many RPG's are adopting the 'open' kind of play style these days, and I somewhat miss the linear style of say, Final Fantasy X. (Until you get that airship, of course.)
Thanks for the kind comment! I shall be keeping you updated, next up is some video footage in the next few days or so!Looks so sexy... Can't wait to try this baybeh. Keep us updated, Poly.
Very encouraging! Yes is how I feel, too! (And thanks for the clarification!)Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!

Thank you!You had me at "story based RPG."
Keeping an eye on this one. Looks Quest64-esque, but that's not a bad thing. Keep us posted!
Where in the Ouya Store is this game located? If it is still in the Sandbox I must have missed it. There needs to be a better way to curate the Sandbox!
I see, it must not be on there yet. I was following Eddie's thread.

I have edited the main post with an Alpha Technology trailer. It's early days, and not perfect, but it's the first video footage of Check I have taken, so I hope you all enjoy!
