Thread: Webcam support

    Webcam support

I really hope they spend a bit of the money to develop USB Webcam Drivers. Skype or Hangouts on the big screen would be awesome.

They even could start a partnership like "designed for ouya" with webcam manufacturers and earn a bit money with that. Or even produce a webcam themselves. Worked for Sony (even with really bad resolution). Could work for Ouya (with HD cam of course)

The PS3 Eye cameras were/are actually pretty awesome - but they were designed for speed, not really image quality (60fps @ 640x480 or 120fps @ 320x240) and you'd be surprised at what sorts of accuracy you can get when you're only tracking a single known object (the Move controllers "orb").

But anyway, Android has Camera support for hardware manufacturers, so I guess it'll be down to drivers and the USB stack (jeez, I'm all about mentioning that today, haha).

I totally agree, though, and not just from a Skype or similar point of view. I'm a big fan of motion control (when done right!) and this might give a bit more freedom to developers who want to play around with this sort of thing, see it on a big screen and potentially hit an audience that will likely already have a webcam that could be used!

I do hope the OUYA takes off, cause it will be cool to see the amounts of things hackers come up with to do with the OUYA. We could end up seeing a whole market for custom peripherals.

I really love the move controllers. Sports Champions is really awesome. Also some tennis games. But when it comes to picture quality I really get sick. Ever played Yoostar2? Or any game where you not only use the cam for move but also to save your picture? Looks like that small videos in the first days of internet.

I think modern Logitech cams would be fast enough for motion controls AND would allow great resolutions.

Honestly if they bring video chat capabilities to the OUYA, I think it will complete the package. You'll have gaming, web browsing, entertainment and then some sort video, ahh man that would be awesome! And all for the price of $99.
