    Space Defender comming to Ouya

    Hello Ouya Community,

    I am really excited and happy to announce Space Defender, still searching for a better name feel free to give input, I currently working on it. And now i think its the right time to get some input and feedback for following Levels. Before I start introducing you the game there two things, first I am not a native so my English wont be that good at all. And the second thing is, so far i want to thank some of the community member which helped me a lot and did this so selfless its really amazing.

    A big thank goes to :
    Rhellik (A lot of helping with the Ouya Export)
    PolygonGaming (Helped Troubleshooting)
    BronerGames (Also Troubleshooting)
    DrunkPunk (Motivation and Feedback)
    Sven (My Designer / Artist)

    Now to the game, it will be an vertical space shooter. Which is inspired by games like Space Impact and another game, but i cant remember the name. You will fly a little space ship, a story isn't planed right now. You will fight against different enemy typs, some will shoot and some just want to crash you. Also there will several bosses, I already have some great boss fights in planing. But I have to wait for Sven finishing the graphics, but i think he already did quite amazing job. Oh and the game will be free game, maybe i build something in like the pizza store.

    Also I did an short clip showing the feature included right now:

    Captured with pc, haven't any device which allow me to capture from my ouya direct.


    Included now:
    - Very minimalistic Main-menu
    - Player Lives in form of ships show on the top corner to the left side
    - Boss fight
    - Shield Power up
    - 2 Typ of enemy (Shooting one and normal ones)

    Controlling :
    I planed using the D-Pad for navigation and the Left / Right Bumber for Shooting / Launching Rockets.

    Planed Stuff :
    - Adding Music + Sounds
    - More LvL
    - New Enemies + bossfights
    - ????
    - Better Name :/
    Will follow time by time

    Wow Temp! You've made a lot of progress. I love the boss artwork/sprite!

    One big suggestion: use the left analog stick for controlling the ship as well. The D-pad is inaccurate and many people hate using it.
    A little suggestion: Have a "kill screen" powerup. Something where when you get it, you hit another button or L1 and it will kill everything on the screen. Those came in handy when I played these sorts of games back in the day.

    All in all it looks like a great start for your first foray into developing. Keep it up man!

    Thx so far, i wanted to let people test this thing with d pad and so. But of cause in a later version. Because the game will be free to play anyway ^^

    Name it something cool... like Void Bouncer or Cosmo Jockey. Those are cool space pilot names.

    Looks great for an early build! Any particular reason why you can't shoot through enemy bullets?
    As for a name, I'd try to go for something less generic or predictable to make your game stick out more in your player's mind as well as the rest of the market. A name is a pretty important thing since this is going to be a first impression of the game before its started up or a single screen shot is even seen. It should embody the overall feeling of the game while perhaps being a bit vague/clever to entice curiosity in people. Not sure how much story or theming you have planned out yet but it should go into that as well.
    Maybe something like Armadeous? Sub-Light? something like that.

    Thanks for the mention Templum

    For game capture i suggest this, i picked it up myself and alot of people use it.

    As for controls, please either go with the joysticks or add control for both joystick and dpad.....reason first for me as a user loves the joystick in comparison to any dpad, Second ouya dpad isnt exactly what you would call good lol. So i think only going dpad could hurt sales...IMO.

    Def a good start though.
