Ouya + external USB DVD drive?

Hi there

does the OUYA recognize external usb dvd drives? i'd like to use it with xbmc as an fully working dvd player and with epsxe as an nearly full psx.

That a very good question. I would think you could, since xbmc for android is capable of displaying the format as long as it can actually access the files you'd be alright.

I personally don't have any way to test that theory at the moment, but will give it a shot when I can.

This was from a long time ago.

I got around to testing this today and didn't have any success with an external usb DVD drive. I tried both the standard usb port on the OUYA and the micro-usb port with an otg cable. In either case, the "Play Disc" menu item does not appear in XBMC. I tried rebooting the OUYA with the external optical drive connected. I tried starting XBMC with and without the DVD already in the drive. No luck.

Interestingly, a DVD rip with the VIDEO_TS folder structure is picked up fine with the media scanner (from network share) but nothing happens when selecting it. If you do the "files view" and drill down into the folder it does play the individual vob files. I don't have an iso rip to test at the moment.

I'd encourage others to try for themselves once they get their OUYAs. My testing was pretty limited so if there's a trick to get it working, it's possible that I missed it. Personally, I don't plan on using it with optical media.

so i guess the ouya is missing an driver for external dvd roms and only works with usb mass storages. too bad. would have been awesome to use the ouya as an "real" dvd player or/and a psx.
