    USB drivin' me crazy!

My USB drives work and then don't work in the OUYA, at random times.. Several different drives. It seems sometimes it just does not want to recognize them (drive doesnt show activity either). Then it will decide later to work.

I searched and didn't see much mention of this on here.. Anyone else??

this seems to be a common complaint, sometime I can remove and attach my drives at will, other times a hard reset is needed, it kind of annoying, I also hear you can only have one external storage device hooked up at a time, for example if your running a usb hub with drives attacked it will only recognize the first.

Another strange point with this is it doesn't seem to work this way with attachments like other controllers or a keyboard and mouse, it seems to be able read those fine everytime and as many as are plugged in.

I'm guessing it has something to do with OUYA messing with the storage drivers in android so they can better control how much space is being used and how it is.

Hard resets don't always fix it for me.. OUYA really just decides when it wants to power the drives. lol

well powering it and reading it are two different things, see it will power it and not recognize it. I have an external drive with light indicators, it will always power it, but there are times when it wont load the drive, I can tell when it does and doesn't by the lights, but I haven't ever had an issue with it not recognizing a drive on a fresh boot.

Wish it was that easy for me. 2 days now, won't recognize any usb drive. Can't play my emulators.. Just seems not as many people have this issue. I did send it in to support.

Below is the response from my support ticket.

    Hi Cpg716,

At this point in time external storage devices are currently available for select titles in the OUYA store that can take advantage of this feature. We are currently working on improving and expanding the use of external storage devices when it is connected to the OUYA. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to improve the OUYA everyday!

    Best,

Replies like this always bother me. This person did not read my initial support request in full. Likely just saw USB and gave a canned response. I explained in my initial report that the USB was detected at random, for titles that support it etc.. it works one hour.. then not the next.. I replied again. re-explaining my issue.. so we will see.

Merged your posts. Use the edit button next time. Makes things cleaner.

In file browser when the USB drive does not show I can give it a little nudge/wiggle, refresh, and it will be there. Can also make the drive vanish this way.

Have you tried plugging other things into the USB and see if they work? Like maybe a USB mouse? Sounds like your USB might be going out. I would just do a rma and tell them that you have a faulty USB, I have never had this happen to me and I have used 3hdd and 4 different flash drivres

Yes.. USB peripherals aren't always detected either.. BUT they do seem to work more often then the USB drives..

I want a console like yours. *whimper*

The only thing mine has recognized is the cheapest, no-name, lowest capacity flash drive that I own.
