From my experience I leave my console idle for hours and it stays on.
It gets hot but not untouchable hot.

I recently received my ouya, but after 10 minutes of play ( after updates) it just powered off. I flipped through the instructions and saw nothing on it, then powered up again.
This time it only lasted 3 minutes.
I felt my console and it is VERY warm to the touch, then I smelled it and I caught the stench of overheating electronics!
Is there a way to fix this or swap out my ouya?

Yeah that's not normal. Make sure you don't have it too close to another piece of electronics that kicks out heat and also make sure it has adequate ventilation. Remember they had to add a fan so clearly these things get hot and the fan is needed, if the fan can't pull in air or can only pull in hot air you will have issues.

Hadn't played my console in a day and just updated it now and it turned off on my after about ten minutes of playing.
Console isn't even hot.
Booted up the system.
Went to "Manage" to update.
Booted up Knightmare Tower.
Played a few launches. Turns off.
Booted it back up, play a few more launches and it turns off again.
Edit: Booted up third time played first stage of Polarity twice and browsed store and as you might have guessed, it turned off on me.

Yeah I am experiencing the same problem as well. Not sure if it has been doing this since day one or if it was due to that update that was applied a day ago but after playing bomb squad for probably less than an hour the console was almost hot enough to burn you when touched. Turned it off and waited for it to cool and tried again, same results. I know im playing a decent resource intensive app but still 1 hour and its almost ready to fry an egg should not be normal. At this rate the console will probably die due to heat within its first few months which is what im afraid of. Anyone else having these issues?
Why can it get that hot? After all we know it is a Tetra with no OC. Is that normal?
I was disappointed when I read that they had added a fan, since it's just another source of noise, and a potential failure point.
I also do not understand the cooling design. I'm assuming the cool air is drawn in from the bottom, but it has no place to escape from the top.
Seems like a bad design.
Anyway... have you tried running your Ouya on its side to give the fan better access to cool air?
