Nitrogen,
I just tested with every controller that I own. Ps3, xbox 360, moga, nyko... All of them work fine. Maybe its how you are connecting them? Or some mod to the system?
I even have code in there specifically for these non-ouya triggers to function properly since they were the only tricky part. And that's all been in there for quite a while.
2.4.2 is published. If you are running a recent beta, you should see an update notification on the splash screen telling you theres a new version in the store.
I have a general question for users. Do you feel there is a lot of benefit to the metadata being in the same location as your roms? My original intention was to make your collection, data and all, easily portable to another system. You just set tue paths and refresh and poof, data. I suspect no one is actually doing this though.
The reason I bring it up is that for the google play port, thats not going to work. Systems beyond 4.2 wont allow writing to external storage in the same way. In the early days of Nostalgia, ouya wasnt write compatible with some formats so I was writing to the Nostalgia directory if writing externally wasnt possible. I can implement that kind of functionality again, but if no one really wants their data in with the roms, I can simply (ha, simply is a ridiculous understatement) migrate all of the writes to an organized structure within the Nostalgia directory and it will work for all systems. It would make the data harder to modify by hand for a couple of reasons in a few cases. Overall though, what do you think? Do you want the metadata created next to your roms?
For anyone trying Nostalgia on other devices: the fetching works for external storage except for covers. The reason for that is that Nostalgia cant write the images and metadata to the external storage BUT the metadata is added to the menu cache as it is fetched and the menu cache is stored on internal storage. You also cant stack or sort or delete because those operations refer back to data files to rebuild the cache and there are no files to go back to. A rooted system with the permissions changed would be able to sidestep these issues. You still cant buy the app but you can play around with demo mode. I am working with the nvidia shield to port it. The nexus player can also sideload it and it will show the icon in the leanback launcher but will definitely have all the same issues.
Im thinking about having an icon competition. The one I threw together the other day ( previous page ) sucked. I want to have something that makes the controller obvious since the initial release of the app will be controller based just like on ouya and I also want to to have some level of retro feel to it but without infringing on IP. If you are interested in having said contest, I'd be willing to give you creative types a shot.
