4th and Goal Football will be the first American football game on the OUYA store. It's designed so it's easy to pick up and fun to play. Written in C#, ported over to the OUYA with MonoGame.

Features:
-Fast paced 5 on 5 football
-Run, pass, defend, and kick your way to the win
-Pick from a total of 16 plays each on offense and defense
-4 teams at launch, each with their own distinctive logo and design

Is the game just helmets moving around?

The players are represented by helmets. Based on how good the game's reception is, we will add fully animated players.

I made an account after lurking to share my thoughts on your game

I don't know what your situation is with funding and if you are going be releasing within a month I'd imagine that you are decently far along in game and may not have time to make any major changes... But here are some suggestions I have:
If you do add animated players don't go for realism, instead go for stuff like in back breaker or extreme exaggeration of athetes
Have a turbo or boost power up like in other sports games (the bigs, nfl street, etc)
Add unique button combo celebrations after touchdowns

Hmm, far be it for me to be negative here, but you have the opportunity to be the Tecmo Bowl of the Ouya. Seriously, the field set up reminds me very much of Tecmo Bowl and I have very fond memories of the game, but some on guys,all you really need to do is animate one character and then recolor it with different colors and do the coding for the animations, especially if the ball and whatnot already goes where it needs to. Please give us some characters because it would feel kind of silly trying to get my friends to sit down and play this with me when it's just helmets running around. Sorry, but especially when you have Madded. Not saying I expect this game to be madden, but please, oh please, can we just have characters instead of just the damn Helmets?

Thanks for the input. We are looking into implementing fully animated characters.

Just got my Ouya last night and regardless of whether the players look like helmets or players (I too would prefer players!) I am very much looking forward to this!

... but considering how hard should be to code stuff like this, I am pretty sure you could add some animated players. You don't even need a lot of different animations.

And it would surely make people look better at the game. My first reaction when I saw the screenshots was exactly the :"What the hell, there are just helmets on field?".


(* the last one I actually tried to play seriously was... ooh.. John Madden on AMIGA, like 20 years ago... unless you consider Brutal Sports Football (Also for Amiga). That one I played for many years after its release, but I guess it doesn't count )

Why does Brutal Sports Football not count? Hell man, I'd be all over a new style release of that game. I had the Amiga version many years ago. I still have it now, but on the Jaguar. Still a fun play through these days.

@Ryan Dale; Excellent man. Honestly, I know you will sell more downloads of the game with animated characters, especially since there are no Football games on the Ouya as of yet. Awesome. I'll be keeping an eye on this project for sure.
