I would totally buy this. Text adventures for the win.

Are we talking about "Choose your own adventure books" made for OUYA?

If that's what your getting at would be way interested in it, as it's something I considered doing myself since I have no programming knowledge, and good story ideas, its something I thought would be easy to implement.

Kinda? Have you ever played Zork or Colossal Cave Adventure? Those are some early versions of the genre. Having a good story is the most important part and they *seem* like they would be easy to code, but getting all the verbs to be recognized well, not to mention programming in the vocabulary, is sometimes difficult. Luckily, earlier in the thread, I posted links to an engine that does most of the programming for you. Read back and check it out!

I actually was just thinking about collaborating with someone who has more knowledge in the area, throwing out ideas, game mechanics, etc.

My vision for something like this would also rely heavily on artwork, and a few different game mechanics as to not totally feel like reading a book.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a look, who knows maybe it's something I can even play around with.

This would be an awesome thing, provided the requisite ammount of playtesting and proofreading ensued. For example, I hated those times in Zork where getting somewhere required you to move "north", but going back to where you just were was "east" and such. It could get confusing.

With that said, this idea has legs. I would be interested in this.

That's why this thread is here. If people see how much interest there is then hopefully someone will jump up and write one. There are a handful of people on here, including myself, that would love to do some writing and proofreading. I know that Xanxic has expressed an interest in doing artwork. If we can get a consensus then we can all start throwing ideas out here and see which ones are the most fertile ground for creating one!

    OK, here's an update.

I found a few people who are interested in working on this, though I have a few other peeps to get hold of too. At the moment I'm writing and coding the story in Inform7. Hopefully I can find someone who could program something in Android that can read the iFiction file, and put it into an HD interface with images and sounds.

That and I've been thinking about the whole "Free Ouya content" stuff, as all Ouya games must have a free component to it, and here's my idea...

I would think it's a great idea to release this game as episodic content. Release day, Chapters 1 and 2 will be available. Chapter 1 will be free to ALL users, but if you want to continue the game and play Chapter 2 you will need to pay for the game. Purchasing the game will give you access to each of the other chapters afterwards in one transaction. New Chapters will be added as updates to the game.

    So what do people think?

I think that's a great payment model. What sort of price are thinking of tacking onto it?

Good to know about iFiction. Maybe I'll check it out one day. But my English is a little too rough to make a fully text game (it would be a nice way to polish it a little though). I was a pen&paper game master for a few years and have a drawer full of ideas for such games.

I'm always down to proofread and edit for you.
