Cool I know GameStop and other Big Boys want to suppress OnLive's ...

Impact with regaining new market, and rebuilding ties with their Publishing Partners after the drastic restructure that kept OnLive going. Do you think they will gain anything with Alliances with Nvidia which is now in the cloud gaming business as well, or will they see the benefit in mutual benefit of making all of us happy?

To me, Onlive is not a viable way to play games. I'm already against
digital gaming, let alone not even having the local files in case internet goes
down or something. Plus the small selection and lag? Ugh. No thanks.

All gaming is digital. I know you mean physical discs, but in reality having a disc means nothing with the ubiquity of DRM.

I stopped playing games offline years ago. And lag? What internet do you have, 1 Mbps? I have 10 (4 reaches my computer) and can play with no lag.

Clearly you haven't "tried" playing OnLive. There is no lag for FSP player fans like me. 2nd it's Free to try. 2014 is a long way off so download the app pc/mac/ipad watch others play in Arena, you can even chat with them and ask While they play if they like the experience. OnLive is cooler than you think. Don't get manipulated and played by the Pr campaigns to shape your attitude about things you have heard about 2nd hand and never tried.

Well sony and microsoft exploring cloud gaming it seems to be an inevitable outcome. This is a problem for single player games, but when you start talking about multiplayer gaming, then it's almost a no-brainer, the only difference between Onlive and the conventional method of gaming is where the game is stored.

Comments about lag and latency are kinda pointless when you consider how far technology has come. To be honest this desire for discs are out-dated as the commodore 65, floppy disks, the vcr and HD dvd. If there is lag today, imagine what it was like 2 years ago, imagine what it will mean in 2 years, It's the process of developing something, I'm sure it will take Ouya a very long while to reach it's full potential, the same with Onlive, the cloud and internet gaming as a whole. Sides when they phase out discs what are you going to use to have physical games.

But hey, I also say macs and Ouya aren't viable hardcore gaming machines, which is where Onlive comes in. The ability to play good quality games on rigs that don't yet have the capabilities of current games on the market, I mean I'd be surprised of Ouya could ever play Batman Arkham City, and the mac can barely support it without needing parallels or going through boot camp.

the one true advantage Onlive has over steam, gametap and gamersgate is something that was revolutionized by MMOs as a whole, but through Onlive its reach is spread to every game you own, the ability to always have access to your save file.

I imagine that as the technology advances, that the idea of cloud gaming will expand, and while it may mean that gamestop et al don't want to play nice, they just might have to go out of business, I mean look at blockbuster and GAME, adapt of become obsolete!

GameStop and other "big boys" haven't lost a moment's sleep over OnLive, ever. GameStop is about as likely to start worrying about the "threat" of OnLive to their business as they are to start worrying about Fred's Used Games in Paducah, Ky.

Then you missed the point when Onlive had a deal with Square enix to put in coupons with hard copies of the game giving users access to the same game on Onlive... Deus Ex: Human Evolution. A means to promote their service. In response to that, gamestop opened copies of the game to remove the coupon or simply moved the games to the backroom to be returned. Thereby acknowledging onlive as a potential competitons even if it's as small as "Fred's Used Games" as you put it. Competition is competion, kinda like what Ouya represents. ironic.

I don't know, I've always been excited for Ouya and what they represent, I figured we'd get the same since both are kinda "underdogs" in the gaming world representing alternatives to Xbox, Nintendo, Sony monopoly for the Ouya, and Onlive allowing for more gamers without actual gaming rigs to access high level gaming. But that's just me. I figured that's why Ed moved us here... I might be wrong.

From what I remember (worked for Gamestop), the OnLive coupon business was around the time Gamestop set up shop with Impuse being part of the "Gamestop Network" (before they rolled it into the Gamestop online shop proper, and not referring to the stupid in store infomercial TV, but the network of sites to GS, GI, Impulse, and Kongregate) to do basically the same thing OnLive was doing, thus, it *DID* make OnLive a direct competitor.

It would be like if "Local Department Store X" added a food section to be competitive with a Walmart Superstore, and then most of the stuff the local store shipped in to sell like boxed cerial had coupons for discounts at Walmart.

If Deus Ex came in even a year sooner, this likely wouldn't have been as big a deal as they wouldn't have quite been a "competitor" yet.
