Dave - I believe these are some of the changes we're hoping the developer will make. It hasn't yet been ported to Ouya. I don't think he's made any indications he's making ANY changes for Ouya yet, although he's already built a variety of ports.

Before anyone complains again, don't forget, he's working on this as a hobby in his spare time, for free.

As far as ROMs go, which mame set do you have? Which version are they specifically for? MAME changes ROM formats frustratingly often. Mame4Droid is a port of Mame 0.37b5, and Mame4Droid Reloaded is a port of 0.139. There were definitely major changes between those revs.

Mame4droid reloaded already works great on Ouya, sideload that while you wait...even if a proper port never comes it wouldn't be a major thing as works great as it is, coins and start are L2 and R2 if I remember, all menus are easily accessed on the Ouya pad, works as great as the iPhone/ipad version which thankfully uses the same .139 romset!
While the ios version played great on an icade, it lacked a 2-4 player mode...this is where the Ouya will excel!

The defaults should be L2 for coin and R2 for start if you're using 1.33.

Incidentally, the developer hasn't heard from anyone about a possible Ouya donation.

I'm using MAME4Droid original, bc half of the ROMs I loaded into "Reloaded" said they were missing files.
Yes, just go in to controller options and map whichever buttons you like. Personally I use L2 for coin, R2 for Start and the ouya button for exit but you can map any buttons you prefer.

I grabbed a torrent from Piratebay with 2200 ROMs, labeled "MAME4ALL 037b5 complete full 2270 romset from theoldcomputer.com" since I figured I could get that to work with one of them. (I'd post the full link but I don't care to get banned, if it's a concern. Anyone can search Pirate Bay if they like.) It works very well with standard "MAME4Droid."

However if anyone can point me in the correct direction for a torrent of the correct ROMS for Reloaded, it would be greatly appreciated! I'd really like to get the two player working, since folks have said it works fine in Reloaded. PM if there's a concern with being open about it.

Yeah, multiple people should have said that =)

So getting back to things, there's still a few tweaks and changes that'd help OUYA. The developer's interested but he doesn't have any hardware to work on.

Is anyone still interested in trying to get him an OUYA? I can't afford one on my own but I'll pitch in at least $20, maybe more if it'd help make up the difference on getting one.

I would have no problem donating a few dollars to a paypal account.

Yeah I'd definitely throw in some money into a small Kickstarter so that we can get this moving. If we had the developer posting here, actively willing to work on the code, instead of second hand news, I think more folks would throw in a few bucks.

That said, there's nothing saying he can't charge a few bucks for it on the store, like the PSX emulator. That would easily pay for his Ouya after the fact. I don't know why he doesn't just do that.

The MAME license precludes selling or commercializing it or derivative works, so he can't legally do that.

Sorry all - got caught up with life and wasn't able to send an email to the developer until today. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from him!

I got in touch with the developer, and he seems willing to port MAME to the Ouya if he had his own unit!!!

-Merged. Please Use The Edit Button Next Time.-
