Maybe I just need to give it a shot on a hardwired connection. If its worth it I guess I can drill a few more holes from my basement for wiring LOL.

Well at least people are getting connected. I can get connected, but the screen on the TV will flicker 5-10 times showing me my desktop, then close and say "Connection Failed". That's as far as I get can get. I even went through all the FAQ's to set everything up correctly. A lot of the time, It will just crash on my PC.

I'm seeing such mixed reviews of this app and I really want it to work. I won't buy the full version till it works good enough to play games like Minecraft at the very least. I'll be trying the free version again tomorrow with both computer and OUYA over ethernet as I was trying it from my laptop (wifi) to ouya (wifi) yesterday and the lag was ridiculous. More specifically, what i"m finding is the output of OUYA to the computer isn't bad, but the input back into OUYA from my laptop was what lagged.

Would really like to reask what someone said earlier in this thread, for anyone who has it working good enough to watch videos or play games, did you change any settings? what's the resolution of your computer? are you on wifi or ethernet?

    Kainy - Jean-Sebastien Royer

I finally got the time to try Kainy out and it's a definite mixed bag. The video quality is poor. The lack of color in the demo highlights the poor video quality. With most modern video cards having hardware encode there has to a better way. My PC renders at 1440p and I didn't try changing setting anything to 1080p. So there may be some down sampling issues. I don't know if the software down samples it or if it is transmitted as-is and is re-sampled on the OUYA.

The lack of being able to use the scroll wheel on the windows server app is annoying, as is the default mapping on the OUYA controller.

My OUYA is hardwired to the network, but my PC is wireless. There should still be plenty of bandwidth for higher quality video.

On the other hand the latency is very good at least for me. Controls are responsive. I only tried Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I just can't see paying $3 for this unless I can get some better video quality results. I would like to try out NVIDIA GRID to compare, but it isn't available yet.

Video quality was poor for me too, and I'm completely hardwired. It was playable, but you lose a good amount of detail in the picture because it was so scaled down. I keep thinking: If OnLive can stream a game to me over the web fairly decent, then this has to be able to do it as well as time goes on. But from my demo time with it, I just couldn't enjoy it too much because the video quality was so low.

It's funny, my time with the demo was almost perfect. I was able to play HD video, games looked pretty good and everything, but when I bought the app, it turned to crap! I'm not sure why, I'm just hoping it'll get updated to work better with the OUYA.

It works pretty well for me. However, I had some issues, and tried posting on Kainy.net. It said that the posts require the admin to authorize them, and it didn't happen 3 days later.
Then, I look at the forum stats and I see :

    Total posts 1190 • Total topics 313 • Total members 21074

Seems like the guy is DoSing the forum.
I mean, I wish him luck and all, and if 20k people signed up he must be doing something right. But is that the way to handle it?

I tried to post there and it never showed up, it's been well over a week, so I understand. I understand monitoring posts, but c'mon, I had valid and real concerns, not to mention I wasn't putting the product down in any way!

Well... I purchased Kainy which was version 1.60 at the time, then I noticed over the weekend they upgraded to version 1.61. I had kainy running great but I just had an issue that I wasnt getting any sound. So i thought the upgrade would be a way to go if they fixed it. Come to find out.... Ouya rejected their update?!

    Hi,

I purchased your app from Ouya marketplace but I noticed that the pc server is 1.61 and its 1.60 on the Ouya server. Do you know when the update will be up?

    Thanks,
    D
    Replied:
    Hi D,

Yes the version 1.61 was rejected by the OUYA.

I posted an workaround on Google+ and facebook.

You need to install this version if you want to use with the OUYA:

    www.kainy.com/Kainy160Setup.exe

Don't forget the exit the current instance of kainy on your computer (Right-click on the bottom-right kainy icon and select exit).

I'm sorry for that and I'm working on a solution.

    JS.
    Hi,

The version 1.61 on OUYA was rejected.

It's strange because all information that reject this version was there for the version 1.60...

Now the problem: If the server is updated at 1.61, the OUYA client(1.60) will display a message where you need to synchronize versions between client/server.

    I uploaded the PC-Server 1.60:
    www.kainy.com/Kainy160Setup.exe

So you can download this version, reinstall the 1.60 for the PC-Server and use for the OUYA version.
*When you launch the application, there is an update. Click on "Cancel" button to keep the 1.60 version.

I'm working to fix this issue.

    Thanks,

    JS.
Google play has it at 1.61. Besides just being this app/game... This just make me wonder about the Ouya marketplace guidelines. Why was it accepted, then rejected when supposingly the same code was there the first go around. I just hope stuff like this doesnt stray away developers, especially developers with games that are cross-platforming since they might not have the time of day to deal with stuff like this.

Anyone know if Kainy has a changelog? I couldn't find it on the website. Or at least does anyone know what the recent update brought?

Edit: So after looking a bit closer (i.e. on the front page, I feel dumb) I found the changelog. They also said release notes are now embedded in the app itself, making me feel doubly dumb =P

To summarize, the recent update on OUYA brings both the 1.61 and 1.62 updates and the following changed:

    New Versioning system
    improved safe area for screen
Added option to close current program/game
    Adde crash/performance reports
    Improved touchpad info
    Improved save hardware mapping
    Various bug fixes.v

I have not had a chance to try it yet, but I will today and report back here on if it's any better connection/quality wise than before.
