What controller are you using for retro games?

So I'm enjoying my new ouya a lot, but there's a couple downsides to the controller. The dpad "up" takes considerably more force than the rest of the pad to press. It clicks but its not actually registering unless I press down further. I was considering exchanging the controller because this has to be a defect but eventually I figured, the dpad is never going to be perfect anyway. On the plus side I think the Ouya controller is one of the best looking and the analog sticks work fine.

Which brings me to the point of this thread, what controllers are you guys using while playing on emulators? I've got a retro SNES USB controller that works perfectly. I tried a retroNES controller and for some reason couldn't get that one to work. The only downside to the retro SNES is that it's corded and you have to reboot the Ouya anytime you plug it in. My Ouya is set up high next to the TV, and I'm worried I'd yank the whole thing down by accident.

I'm looking at the icade 8-bitty wireless retro controller which supposedly works on android, the only thing I don't like is that the buttons are aren't concave like they are on an actual NES/SNES.

So what are you guys using, or are you sticking with the Ouya controller?

What I want to do is to get the original controller for each emulator so it's just the right feeling.
Besides I don't like, that there's no start and select button so I have a 360 controller in spare when I need it.

I've seen a tutorial in where you can switch the analog stick with the ones from a 360 controller.
Maybe I'll do that when I find a broken one. But for now it's okay not perfekt but okay.

I've been using the ouya controller for the most part. But I got a couple hours into Tony hawk on epsxe and the sharp edges on the dpad started really cutting into my thumb. So I swapped to my ps3 controller where I totally felt right at home and realized how big the ouya controller is. So I think it's my worn in ps3 controller. Perfect dpad.
