We do tend to take the chat off the deep end late at night, which is the only time I'm on. Now I must remember not to be an ass...

I do agree that chatbox is making the forum look sleazy, but I don't have any suggestion how to make things better. If the box goes away and people feel the need to talk about sleazy things, maybe Hangouts or Skype would be an alternative to a forum about Ouya?

Well hangouts or skype would have them basically leave the site. if they dont leave the site, most people will choose to post spam in the forum.

So its a great way to stop the spam, yet shouldn't be out in the open.

Can each profile have an option to show or hide the chat and the site remember the preference?

I don't really get the notion of spam being something people has to get out of their system... Is it some sort of bonding process?

I think the term "spam" is incorrect. People who post something like titties are just trying to have a good time. Some of us(including myself) are possibly at a desk with a computer at their jobs and maybe a little vegging could ease the stress of day to day bullshit. It all comes down to how someone perceives the information they're seeing. Of course in our case, someone doesn't have a sense of humor nor actually gives the forum a chance and instead just calls it childish.

    *EDIT*

I'm not saying I'm not going to go along with this new-found rule. I just think you ought to give the people who caused this situation a little bit of slack here.

I guess you're right. That last part about giving some slack calls for a clarification I think; I was just curious as to why people need to joke around so harshly that it (apparantly) becomes an issue. Personally I have no opinion of the ones talked about (I don't even know who they are) as persons.

What needs to be remembered is that our humor isn't out of malice. *Grits her teeth* We are a.... happy community.

For clarification purposes: no one ever complained until this thread came to light. And no rules were ever established previously. Furthermore, no warnings were ever issued, to my knowledge. And if they were, it was on an individual basis - not to any particular group of users.

    Those are the facts.

Some, including myself, see the chat area as a place to joke around and kill time with other regulars. Others may not share the same sense of humor (obviously). Nevertheless, I think it's fair for everyone, management and users alike, to see the new rules and adjust accordingly. However, this is where some are coming back and saying 'give some people some slack,' because it feels like regular chatters are retroactively being punished for crimes never committed based on the new rules. There's also an element of hypocrisy since in the forums people, including management, have acted inappropriately (based on the new rules).

I don't remember anything along the lines of a warning either and I'm the most active person on the chatbox. Hell, the chatbox being a bad "anything" has never come up once.

The hypocrisy is a glaring issue with this website and while this and a few other instances may be the perfect example. The blame game that goes on around here needs to be put a lid on as it's really more "immature" looking than the chat could ever be. The pre-orders, XBMC, side-loading, everything needs to be pressed against as it's overflowing the entire forum and all that comes out of it is... "you're wrong and I'm right so deal with it you loser".

It's getting to the point where I find myself migrating to the chat because I feel like I can't say anything on the forums due to some oversensitive user with a self-righteous and entitled too attitude spreading their bullshit. That's the biggest "face" problem on the entire website.
