Question Cant save games on emulators

Whats up people. First off, I want to say that I'm glad I waited for the ouya. I'm loving this little box. It brings me back to a time where I felt gaming was actually fun. But I'm having a problem with emulated games. I'm running my roms from a 500 gb toshiba hard drive and the emulators detect my hard drive and runs the roms with no problem but if I save a game, close the emulator and then open up again the save data is gone. Also, save states don't work. If I try saving a state i'll get a "file i/o error". And this is true for every emulator EXCEPT epsxe. For some reason, this is the only emulator that saves, both in game and through the emulator itself. I find this very odd. Any one else having this problem? Anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Save the game and manually check to see if the save data is in the folder. If not then the emulator isn't really saving.

That's all I can say. Don't have an OUYA yet to check what's wrong.

My first suggestion would be to try moving some of your ROMs to the internal memory and checking if it works from there. What might be happening is that the app is trying to store save data to the same folder where the ROM is located (on the hard drive), and then failing because Android doesn't support writing to that type of filesystem.

Whether the hard drive is using NTFS or FAT might be important. Seems like I've seen elsewhere on this forum that the kernel used in OUYA's Android build doesn't support writing to NTFS.

This is all speculation. I haven't personally experimented with either emulators or external storage yet.

You need to provide some additional specific information to give people here a chance to test / reproduce your issue.
In this instance, the main important detail is "which emulators"
You said "all emulators", which is just too vague to be useful.
I have had no such issues with SuperGNES.
Also when you say "Save game" are you specifically talking about save STATES, or the actual "Save game" option present in some games (like RPGs, Zelda, etc)?

I think you're pretty much correct. Only thing is you don't have to move the roms, just change the path to the game saved. The game saved need to be on the internal storage if their not saving to the hhd

Re: Cant save games on emulators

Android can't write to your external drive and the emulator is set to create saves at the same location as your roms by default. Fix, create a folder on your Ouya (I plugged mine mini usb) and point the emulator to save there by going in options-system-savepath-custom savepath. Navigate to your newly created folder and exit pressing A, voila. ePSXe and mupen64 create there own folders by default so its not an issue. The creator of the .emus is an active forum member but doesn't own the ouya hardware yet. Simple fix.

got the save states to work on NES EMU, by creating a new folder on OUYA and directing it to save there. turn console off and come back and save has disappeared.
any one have any ideas as to why.

also using super gnes and do not see a spot to redirect the saves to. no options to change it?
and unless I'm blind. i cant find any options to change controller setting either.
    anyone using this?
