Review of a Preview: A BIT OF A FIST OF AWESOME

Genre: Arcade style side scroller fighter (I'm making my own genres here )

A BIT OF A FIST OF AWESOME, so far is just a demo on the Ouya, but should be releasing a full version any time now (I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it!) The story is pretty amusing (and not really cliché, which is extra-nice!) and definitely has me wanting to see so much more. They do kind of keep you in the dark, though; for example in the beginning (literally like 30 seconds in) the screen goes black and the next thing you know, your world has turned upside down, I'll leave the how and [I]what[I] for you to find out yourself (I'm very anti-spoiler). I am hoping that what happened is explained more as the game progresses. The story unfolds in a hilarious (to me, anyway) way, but if you're not as easily entertained as I am you may just find this game silly. The enemies are hysterical; you fist fight woodland creatures that apparently hate your face and have somehow managed to enslave the human race (hmm...), not an unseen tale, but definitely unique in this setting. Something I really loved as well is how fluid the controls are. It is so easy to punch a deer so that he collapses (temporarily), turn and throw a few punches in a bear's face while he's down, and turn back in time to take the deer down. I will include some screenshots that I took, please forgive the poor quality, I am too poor to have a real camera, so I use my iPhone.

His hand is suddenly ALIVE!!! [whaaaat?]

    PUNCH that deer!

    Ooh-la-la

Controls 5/5 very easy to navigate and they have a tutorial as you begin the game. Something I really liked, which is usually problematic (and undoable) in these arcade-style fighters is how easy it is for you to turn mid-punch and hit an enemy behind you. Usually you can't switch between enemies so fast so this is just awesome!!

Overall 5/5 yes and YES this game is definitely something I will be keeping an eye outdoor the full version of, which according to the message at the end of the demo, should be releasing any time now!

TL;DR This side-scroller fighter is highly entertaining (for someone as easily entertained as myself, anyway), the story is unique, the gameplay is entertaining and easy to understand. The fluidity of the controls is nicer than most other side-scrolling fighters that I have come across. I especially love the ability to take on multiple enemies at once; I could punch one enemy and quickly turn to punch another approaching from behind and have plenty of time to get back to the first enemy before he can throw another punch at me! I was slightly confused by the storyline, but let's face the facts here; most games aren't 100% plausible.

Ah, I totally needed this as I was getting really bummed because I had to go to an interview and needed a boost. I appreciate the non-spoiler approach as it's a lot more difficult to write about(in a good refined way), but also keeps the reader intrigued as there are all these unknown "I got to see this for myself" feelings. Due to the fact that little information has been released about this game as all other games on the OUYA; I was skeptical about this one. More so than the others because of my worry of its length. Anyways...

I enjoyed reading your "aww'd" thoughts as I find them refreshing and well, hell... They make me hopeful, lol. The combat was a huge relief off my mind as it's really hard to pinpoint that arcade experience that we miss so much these days. I enjoyed this overall and I shall not overlook this title and will demo it as that unknown "my hand is alive!" picture is too good to miss.

The pictures turned out good by the way

Hah thanks, I was a tad nervous about how short my article was...but the demo was really short, too. So realistically there isn't much to write about. Honestly, though, idk about the hand thing either, lmao. So that is the part that I am really hoping that they so more in depth with because that's literally the depth they go into in the demo... I was wondering how fast it'd take you to see my post since you said you'd be keeping an eye out and you didn't disappoint, that was FAST! Thank you for the encouragement, hopefully my next one will be better and hopefully I will be less anxious about it as well.

You think your article was short, ha! Good read, though.

Glad you're keeping the TL;DR in the same post. Fits nicely.
