Not quite sure. I'm using a Samsung S24B350 (which has no audio) and using a ViewHD HDMI to Analog 3.5mm adapter and it's working fine!
Hey all,
I'm using one of the best gaming monitors out there, the Asus VH236H. However, there is absolutely no sound from the Ouya when directly connected to it. I've never had an issue with my 360/PS3/Wii U etc...
This is a real shame since this LCD monitor is a favorite of thousands of gamers out there!
It plays sound fine connected to my TV. Any help out there? This really sucks.![]()

Thanks for the reply. Your setup bypasses the display for audio so your display isn't even a factor..
The Asus VH236H has built-in audio and functions perfectly with the XBOX 360, PS3, Wii (with HDMI adapter), Wii U, my laptop etc. That the Ouya doesn't work is very surprising, and I bet we'll see a lot more unhappy people out there soon since this is a VERY popular LCD for the gaming enthusiasts out there.
Have you tried powering down both the OUYA and the monitor, then turning on the monitor first hten the OUYA? maybe it has to do w/ detecting the display?
Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

I'd say contact Ouya support, sounds like there may be an issue with the display and the Ouya communicating their abilities with each other. If so that's almost certainly something that should be correctable through a software update and is probably exactly the kind of feedback they're looking to get during this pre-launch period.
As a temporary solution if you have any bluetooth speakers or headphones you can pair those while you wait to hear back from Ouya (I got an auto reply from support about my controllers saying it's taking them 2-3 days to reply to support questions right now so I wouldn't expect an immediate fix.) I was pleasantly surprised to find how well BT audio worked when I tried it since this means I can play after my daughter goes to sleep without waking her up using my BT headphones.
I tried my Bluetooth Speaker Dock (Bose SoundLink) and my LG BT earphones, and while they do work, the audio is lagged quite a bit behind the actual thing going on.
I sent Ouya an email, because right now I have no usable sound in my gaming setup, and that... sucks!

Odd, I didn't notice any audio lag with my Motorola S10's. Only issue I had was the less than stellar audio quality that they give for anything
Then again maybe I didn't notice because the audio was lagging the same amount as my controllers
Since you have audio from the Ouya on your TV and you have audio from other devices on the ASUS it really sounds like something that may have an easy software fix based on my understanding of HDMI. I've been a late adopter to HDMI and just upgraded in march to a TV that supports it finally (mostly because I was expecting the Ouya) and my android phone doesn't support HDMI out so I haven't played with it under android much. But unless the ASUS is doing something funky with audio I'd think it should be a fairly simple tweak. Have you looked in Manage->Settings->Advanced->HDMI to see if there are any settings in there that may help? I haven't looked at that in a few days and don't remember what all's in there. But I have seen reports that the overscan settings in there don't actually do anything so I may inadvertently be sending you on a wild goose chase.
