We need to wait to have our Ouya first. I don't think any of the limited additions have shipped.

As for the comparison to x360 and the PS3 I think people need to remember that these consoles cost well over $500 when released and only recently came down in price to $200 - $300 for the console and one controller. The games (Good or not) still cost about $70 a shot when released. Price wise it's not a good comparison because these people are neglecting the price difference. It's like getting upset the your Toyota Yaris isn't as good as all the Lamborghini Aventadors that everyone is driving.

I see that Dreamzle claimed that it pauses, but I'm suspicious that it only does that when you grab a purchasable list in the standard way. I absolutely can't find any way, shape, or form that the system protects you from just sending in a purchase request in the source code.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm afraid that the only reason that everybody is popping dialog boxes is because they're doing things in a uniform way right now.

If it's true, it's actually an absolutely huge deal. Devs could charge you by accident. Or maliciously.

edit: anybody else having trouble getting on the forums.ouya.tv right now? I can't log in, and I only see posts from yesterday or before.

It's a review of a product that people paid for and the company decided was ready to send out. They knew full well as soon as people got their hands on this product, there would be reviews across the web. I want the Ouya to succeed. I'm building an Ouya exclusive. I'm biased. I paid for one. But these are valid problems that need to be addressed. Is the bashing of the available software relevant? Maybe not. But the hardware issues are there. Physical issues like the faceplates not aligning properly and the physical cheapness of the controller. Those things won't be fixed in a software update. Some of the issues will. The reality is that defending Ouya's mistakes will not help them. They need to take these reviews seriously and remedy the issues, because like it or not, coverage from these mainstream sites are what will definie Ouya's success, not discussions on forums by kickstarter backers.
Does not warrant a scoring the entire console and experience a 3.5. Especially when controllers like the Xbox one have the worst d-pad in existence and they're still revered by many as the best controller ever. Probably this reviewer included

Because Topolsky was a backer. He got a backer console.

Any game that has a confirmation button implemented that button themselves or from somebody else's code example.
Or it's the OS that shows the dialogue. Which is more likely.

The way I've seen it described, as I don't have an Ouya myself, it sounds to me like the system itself handles the pop up confirmation. Meaning, the developers don't have to call any code because it's already pre-built in the system itself. A transaction gets prompted, and the system is going to notice and go to the pop up. I myself cannot say that for sure, but that's how it sounds based on how others have described it.

The fact that they mentioned Halo in the article and eschewed all games on the platform besides Final Fantasy III is all you should need to know to know the article is not something you should take seriously. Not to mention the fact that this isn't even a retail rollout; it's basically a beta test, and we have no idea what kind of games might come out for it by the official rollout. Besides that fact that it was never meant to be a "Halo" kind of system anyway. This is the open console, the democratic console, the console where everyone gets a voice and everyone can make a game that wont be shunned to some impossible to find "ghetto" area of the system, never to be seen again, or worse.
I agree. The Verge is very hard to take seriously. He also called the Tegra 3 cutting edge, which shows he isnt really even familiar with the hardware (I think the nexus 4 is roughly twice as powerful). Probably a good thing though, he would have just bashed it like everything else. (not dissing the Tegra, I wouldnt want ouya to cost more than 100 bucks)

I must not seen gamestick and saw it yesterday. I admit, it looks cool and IF it can run games nicely then it is competition. I do wonder from an techie/IT standpoint that hdmi stick can really pack that much power, but I would like to see tests of gamestick vs ouya in speed tests. We might be surprised.
Doesnt Gamestick run a Mali400? From a 3dmark point of view, gamestick should be 15-25% slower.

I thought what he said was pretty fair. The controller seems to have some serious problems, which is a massive issue. And you have to judge a system's library based on what's currently available, not what you hope will come. He does say many times that it has a lot of potential, but in the end: As things are right now, the OUYA is a system with a flawed controller and a handful of fun games, with no amazing ones.

We're all hoping that some of the really cool stuff that has been announced will come out, like Legend of Dungeon, Mercenary Kings, and Fez, but you can't rate a product based on how it's going to be in the future. I agree that the score may be a little low, but even if it was a 4/10 or 5/10, that's not much better.

But every gaming console or platform needs a halo game, whether it's something like Angry Birds or, well, Halo.
Angry Birds BECAME(notice the emphasis on the word became) a hit on iOS almost a year after the App Store was launched. Give it some time David.

This platform desperately needs a game like Grand Theft Auto, or Shadowgun, or Assassin's Creed, or Bioshock... or something.
No... No it doesn't... I see the Ouya as a tool for indies to become the next Rockstar Games, Square Enix, EA, etc. So many people want to develop games but are shadowed by the big corporations. I say FUCK YOU and stay on your "big three".

The Verge would probably rate a game like Pac Man a 4.5 for bad graphics. That's my two cents.
