    Touch Pad- Should it go

As Ouya Everywhere is moving ahead now, games being developed are ever more being developed to run on the Ouya and other consoles. However, no other console have a touch pad on their controllers. I have also noticed that not many games utilise the touchpad.

So with all that, should Ouya eliminate the touchpad from the controller in the Ouya 2? (assuming it happens).

I guess it would also eliminate some cost from the controller as well.

Is this a rhetorical question? Of course it needs to go.

No, it should not be removed. It is useful for moving through the regular Android interface and websites.

Couldn't you just do that with the sticks?

I was hoping it would be used in the same way the right pad on the new steam controller is planned for. ie as a substitute for a mouse on FPS games. Never panned out that way though

As I recall the MOJO (I think) has a button for Mouse mode, in which the thumbsticks move the mouse pointer. It would be I think more accurate and faster than using the touchpad.
Heck we could even fit START and SELECT back onto the controller without the pad.

I always found it was kinda weird OUYA said : "We dont want mobile games on the OUYA, we want controller optimized games. - Whats the touchpad for then? - Oh its for those games that have to use touch controls." ...What?

I gotta get me a MOJO controller. That sounds great.

In that case I think there would need to be a small button somewhere to switch between using the sticks as normal and as mouse.

Edit: So I change my vote from simply No to: No, unless there is an alternative such as mouse mode.

Here it is. I actually find the button layout pretty smart. Better than a touhcpad at the top.

And the D-pad looks pretty decent.

As I recall the only game truly utilising the touchpad inside the game is Saturday morning RPG, where you have to scratch off stickers before battles for bonuses. That would be awkward with the mouse mode thingie. But other than that? Only lazy developers.
