    Remove or leave copyrighted material?

In the one week I've been on Youtube I've already had two run-ins with copyrighted music. I gather that most music rights holders are monetizing the videos that their music appears in, and video game composers are no exception. Youtube offers the option, however, to remove the copyrighted material.

If the music stays in, ads may be placed in the videos with profits going to the copyright holder. Taking the music out can make parts of a video, well... awkward. Does anyone care one way or the other? I think that most of the let's players out there remove the content.

    Thoughts?

You barely have any videos up and they hit you? That's just stupid. I'd prefer to be ad free so those vids would probably come off my page and I'd leave a nice big "screw you" there

It's automatic. There's software that checks everything against a database filled with submissions from all of the music rights holders. I got hit on my very first video because of the star wars theme music in the intro. I acknowledged without even thinking about it. But without the music, that whole bit with the yellow text receding into the background would be eerily silent.

Are you adding your own music, or are the tunes in the games causing the issues??
Either way, the easiest option is to mute the music.
Most games oughta let you shut up the music.
If the games feel bland without ANY music, head to a site like Incompetech and grab some royalty free tunes for playing in the bckground.

Basically, if you're getting music-copyright claims, then try your best to avoid them.

Yep, mute it. The whole system for music in videos is screwy beyond belief and I could rant for hours on it. Gah!

Cutting music works too but just don't sit there in silence if you mute it. But if some creators are that insecure that they think everyone is stealing their music, cut their shit.

If you want to know what a video is like with the copyrighted material taken out, go to 14:15

.... Surely that's a bit where we get to hear more of you.. That's the point of watching these, isn't it??!
If we wanted to just watch bland uninteresting cutscenes, we'd buy the game!!!

Ha! I've been using cutscenes to think of what to say next. And to remind myself not to say "uh..." And in my defense, there was loud music there when I was playing.
