Let Me Address Some Questions & Concerns.

    Hello,

I doubt I need an introduction, but for those who're are new to this place whether they be member or lurker, I suppose I should give myself one as a formality. As you can tell, my username is RiotingSpectre and I'm a Retired Administrator here at OUYAForum. I've been in the OUYA scene since the Kickstarter campaign for it was ten minutes old, and you'll usually find me acting my usual bipolar-esque self towards OUYA Incorporate in many ways. With the introduction out of the way, it's now time to explain why I'm making this thread.

It comes as no surprise to anyone who has been here for more than a minute that the OUYA scene isn't in its healthiest state at the moment. OUYAForum's traffic is at an all-time low, social media has disregarded what little positivity its had for the OUYA, & the company itself isn't doing anything to remedy the seemingly limitless problems that are happening right now. Or are they? Let me address some questions and concerns:

OUYA Incorporate hasn't been producing OUYA console for a while now:

We don't know that for sure and we can only speculate at this point. However, the recent push to cross over to China leads me to believe that they're still manufacturing OUYA consoles as they have been, but are reserving them for the Chinese market. The interest for electronics over at China overshadow every other nation by far, and OUYA Incorporate is reserving all the units to prepare for the inevitable demand.

If they aren't selling the units then that means they're not making money, right?:

OUYA Incorporate makes most of their money from game sales. True, not distributing as many consoles as possible will have a negative affect in regards to how much money they'll be able to make, because if a developer doesn't have a console then they can't develop for it. Thus there's no game on Discover to be sold and OUYA Incorporate wouldn't have any cut of the profits since nothing is there to begin with. However, what I said previously about reserving the units could most likely be done as a plan to reap the rewards from China in the long-run than garnering the usual amount of profit here in the present from other nations.

Where are the firmware releases for the OUYA console, and why are they spaced out so far apart from each other?:

Like any game console, the OUYA does receive updates here and there. A lot of complaints are centered around the fact that they're too far apart which creates negative feelings amongst the community such as anxiety. The reason they're so far apart is partly due to the company itself and the OUYA community. The former wants more time to polish up each update so there isn't any problems when it does release, and the latter previously complained that in the old days of the console's life, the updates were too frequent. To make both sides happy, I would suggest that people accept the time-frame for the updates as they are right now, but also request that OUYA Incorporate use any means necessary to inform the OUYA community as a whole that they would like some pre-release hyping so there isn't any anxiety.

When is the next firmware update for the OUYA console?:

I can't give specifics for obvious reasons, but don't fret it. The next update will be released soon. Really soon if everything goes as planned.

What's going on with OUYA Everywhere?:

OUYA Everywhere isn't something that can be rushed out to the masses in its current state, and is instead available in its primitive form on things such as the Madcatz MOJO. That being said, OUYA Incorporate is choosing this as one of its top priority's, and is doing everything they can to stabilize and perfect it for the move to China. As of this moment, consider it something to look forward to instead of thinking it was simply forgotten by the company who created it because it wasn't an instant widespread success.

Isn't there something we can do to help regarding OUYA Everywhere & having developers make their content available to the Chinese?:

You can help out a lot by contacting developers who've already developed on the OUYA to make their content OUYA Everywhere compatible. You can also implore them to translate their content, if not go a step further by giving them contacts to translators who can help translate their game for them. Use any social media account to reach out to everyone you can to do these two things. The OUYA community has shaped the controller's d-pad, the time-frame the updates get released, and so many other things. We can make a difference here too and a beneficial one at that.

OUYA Incorporate isn't doing Twitch streams amongst other things:

At this point, OUYA Incorporate is busier than they've ever been because they're working on a lot of things that will determine whether or not they'll still be around in the future. With that said, everyone at the company has been hard at work on a multitude of things such as making sure their move to China is a success, OUYA Everywhere is stable, & that their current responsibility's are still being handled. Anything "extra" such as Twitch streams, Youtube videos, & anything else will be put on the back-burner.

OUYA Incorporate is going out of business, aren't they?:

I know the lack of transparency from the company and the fact that there's hardly any news anymore would result in such a thought, but OUYA Incorporate is still going strong. A lot of stuff goes on behind their curtain's and nobody has any ground to stand when they say stuff like, "They're doing what the big three are so they're down for the count". You have to realize that OUYA Incorporate isn't like those other guys in the slightest. They don't have to make millions a month to pay their employees, their subdivision's, and everything else like they do.

Furthermore, just because something isn't being said means there's something bad going on. In fact, there's some exciting stuff in store for every OUYA owner out there. You just have to be patient and remember that OUYA Incorporate isn't afflicted by the same business problems those other guys are. They still have some of their own, but not on the same level by far.

    Where is the OUYA Two?:

You have to realize that any business needs to take logical steps forward in order to succeed. With that said, the successor of the OUYA console isn't too terribly far off, but also isn't something you should expect to see when you wake up a week later. Everything has to fall within place such as the previously mentioned things OUYA Incorporate has been working on for a while now before the successor can even be announced. You have to be patient and enjoy the original OUYA console until everything is ready for its successor. You have my word that there will be a successor to the OUYA console.

So there you have it, folks. Straight from someone who has been in the OUYA scene since the very beginning, and is someone who knows OUYA Incorporation's MO to a "T". Just be patient, show support, & enjoy what you have at the moment. It will all come together soon enough.

That settles it for me because when Riot says,"Jump!" a new crater forms on the moon from the impact of Chuck Norris's head and by moon I mean one of Jupiter's moons if not all of them.

I hadn't even considered that the shortage of consoles might be due to them going to China instead. I hope that's the case. Good "State of the OUYA" address, Riot.

I must emphasize that it's just a theory. As of (sometime) yesterday, new OUYA consoles & controllers are now in stock at OUYA.tv. Talk about weird timing. I suppose either:

A.) My theory was completely incorrect.
B.) My theory was correct, but they back-peddled some units for other nations.

In any case, this solidifies my point pertaining to waiting and how things will fall into place in time.

There is almost no point in consoles being in China when they're about to be on the consoles of the big players with further plans to expand to more spots. Lack of an ad push or PR would make it dead in the water when Xiaomi is China's Apple and Alibaba is China's Samsung.

Probably just a manufacturing issue, whatever it is.

Ouya Everywhere is already targeted for Alibabas and Xiaomis boxes as was announced. Why would Ouya launch the Ouya console in China, the most saturated market for Android Consoles on the planet. They would be doing this when they are in the process of getting OE on Xiaomis and Alibabas boxes, ie launching a competing platform against companies products you are in the mix of getting OE on - Hmmmm. And to add they have been stock piling them to launch in China to deny sales in the west. I just find all that very very hard to believe

In regards to the very limited stock on Ouya.tv, they were discussed a while ago, they seem to be shop returns, they are the old aluminium Ouya and may be in opened boxes.
"*Limited quantity. Console orders may not ship until March 31. Some units may have a previously opened box. "

As has been discussed numerous times recently , it doesn't appear that Ouya has been making the console for a least 3 months going by the stock shortages. Every now and then you will see a tiny amount of stock which appears to be refurbs (gamestop) or returns (ouya.tv currently).

It doesn't matter, because as said before, it was just a theory. I didn't create this thread to debate the console manufacturing nonsense. I created it to ease the anxiety of the community. I personally couldn't give a shit about the manufacturing matters, but since a lot of other do, I included it in my opening post.

RiotingSpectre, thanks for the 'update' and all the information. I know it's a tough position to be in, but the Ouya needs to hit that Chinese market pitch perfect and hopefully things will counter balance over here with news/info regarding everything we've been wondering.
