Why does Ouya have a fan? Other similar microconsoles like Mojo and Vita TV don't

I've got that installed on my Ouya, but I'm not sure it really makes any difference. The app says the GPU frequency changes from 220 Mhz to 500ish Mhz and then "Superuser granted permission" whatever that means

but I've never really noticed any difference in any games with it enabled or not. I kinda suspect its a placebo effect and not actually something that makes any OUya games run better at all.

Well, it's certainly not the only optimization one can think of. In addition to that, I use RAM Expander, changed my screen resolution to 720p and even use GL tools to emulate a more powerful SoC for some games. I even use Clean Master's "game boost" feature sometimes. With all that soft modding I can play some games that are normally not compatible with Ouya, like Godfire, Rise of Prometheus for example.

My Ouya has been on for about a year now, and I've never heard the fan. Imagine how small the Ouya would be without the fan, it looks like the fan is at least a third of the entire console.

The real reason is because the console dreams of being a helicopter. That is why they had to affix weights to the bottom of the case.

The 3 things i noticed big improvements on was Skiing Fred - ran at full detail without slow down. Same with Riptide 2 and Reaper didnt have any issues with slow down either.
