Ouya owner considering buying a Mojo for Ouya everywhere and emulators

The Mojo's dongle is because the Mojo c.o.n.t.r.l.r or whatever its called is "Bluetooth Smart" which apparently is a new low battery drain technology. Mojo launched running 4.2.2. Jellybean doesn't support Bluetooth smart, only Kitkat and Lolipop.

Based on all that I've read, Madcatz plans or at least had planned to release a kitkat firmware release for the Mojo which would mean the dongle is no longer needed. that hasn't happened yet.

but there is an unofficial 5.0 Lolipop update for Mojo that makes the dongle not needed once its upgraded.

GameStop has the M.O.J.O. for $125.97 brand new apparently. I'm debating whether I should get it or not. The price seems okay.

Quite an interesting read is this thread. I'm debating on leaving the OUYA in favor of an android TV box. Nitrogen_Widget mentioned previously of more powerful android devices. Is anyone out there using an android tv box to emulate? I mainly bought my OUYA to emulate other consoles and mainly the dreamcast but after purchasing it found that it was the upper limits of the hardware.

I really like my OUYA and what I've seen of these boxes I will probably have more compatibility issues outside of the OUYA experience when trying to emulate but wondered if someone is using a octa core android box to emulate and what there experience has been like?

Also what are peoples thoughts on the Razer forge tv. Is it worth holding out for that?

I've seen the MOJO price drop to £120 on Amazon UK recently. Personally for me the Ouya fits the bill perfectly, and I'd rather wait and see what Ouya 2 turns out to be instead of buying into something like MOJO. It's tempting to buy new toys, but Ouya gets everything pretty much spot on - store, games, approachability, value etc etc. All we need now perhaps is some more powerful hardware.

My Mojo has arrived, been rooted, and Ouya is now up and running on it.

Did you install the OUYA Everywhere store or sideload the normal Discover store?

I suppose I installed the standard Ouya everywhere store. It happened automatically when I rooted my Mojo.

I'm not really sure about sideloading the normal Discover store as you put it. Would that allow the Mojo to access the entire Ouya library? There are key Ouya games that I want on my Mojo that aren't available through the Ouya app.

I should also mention that I REALLY like the Mojo CTRLR. yeah, it's blatantly a copy of the Xbox 360 controller, but the extra media buttons really come in handy for emulators since they can be mapped to functions like save state, load state, open menu etc etc while allowing all normal mappings to the other buttons. This, in contrast to the Ouya controller, which doesn't even have start and select buttons, let alone extra buttons.

But I really, REALLY hate the Mojo CRTRL dpad. Goddamn it sucks. It's stiff and mushy at the same time. I'm going to have to look into possibly modding it.

I can see the Mad Catz CTLR looks awesome. I actually have two of these for my PS3, despite the reviews there and them being wired, damn they are the best pads I've ever used in my life. They look largely exactly the same pad. You can change the sticks and the D pad around, so I have a 360 layout and a PS3 style D pad. Much better!

I'd like to get one of those for sure. That seems like a great controller.

But part of what makes the Mojo pad so great is that can switch from controller mode to mouse mode at the slide of a switch. Mouse mode is really important for accessing touch based content as Android tends to be based around, and there are a lot fo Android games that very sloppily only support touch when navigating menus outside of regular gameplay.

I can hook up a dualshock 3 to my Mojo just fine and that solves the dpad issue, but its trading one set of problems for another. Plus you loose the row of additional media buttons on the top of the Mojo CTRLR that can be mapped to various things in emulators.

I love the Mojo CTRLR except for the d-pad. It's a 9/10 controller in every other category, but on the dpad it gets a 3/10. It's just too stiff. I've tried taking the controller apart to see if I could replace the dpad with another one, but the thing is awkwardly designed with lengthy prongs. No other dpad could replace it. I'd have to rebuild the entire circuit board. What a pain.
